Title: What you listening to?
Post by: Bubba on November 28, 2003, 09:11:12 am
At the moment?

To ease the commuting blues (apart from my French lessons), today I was listening to The Coral's Magic and Medicine LP - nice, almost folky really.

And on the way home I shall be listening to the madness that is DJ Scud - techno/breakbeat terror music  :D

Downloaded that Dj Yoda from Jim, but not listened yet.

Cofe's thing sounds good - can you Waste it sometime? I'll try to get my DJ Mek tape rips up there sometime. I've got two Mek tapes which are apparantly rare was rockin' hoss poo. He's an Irish DMC champ and plays a superb set of hip-hop with some amazing scratching.

Queen - Seven Seas....    Wow, not heard that since I was about 15 (thank fuck  :P )

This weeks tunes on rotate,

Subliminal winter sessions - Morillo goes crazy on the filters again
Sandy Riviera in da house - Check the application of the acapella from 'the revolution will not be televised' by the one like the riviera, hot to def

and

Kenny Dope in the house - remember the classics like Jungle Brothers - I'll house you? well, its them and all their friends for three disks worth of sublime mixing at the hands of the dope one.

I will reinstate my waste installation this weekend, I've been waiting to get my server rebuilt onto new RAID board but its being a big fat arse.

So how is Michel Thomas working for you?

Got the new Moloko album off my brother last weekend, enjoyably funky. If its your thing, the new Eels album Shootenanny is working for me too.

I haven't got a tape player in this car, so Michael Thomas is out the window, but I've downloaded the complete set of Pimsleur French - 90 x 25 minute lessons split into 3 levels. Pretty good stuff really, though apparantly different to the M.T. ones.

Never heard the Eels - what sort of thing is it?

I like Moloko - I think Roisin Murphy's got a really interesting voice. Must catch them live sometime, which shouldn't be hard considering they're a Sheffield band.

What's that album like?

I've got a couple of tracks from it which sound ace. Is it worth splashin out on?

I'm usually a bit of a rocky guitary listener, but I'm psyched for getting into more of this psych music you boys are always banging on about.

g

quality album full of funky toons - well worth splashing out on!

Especially the JDJ Coldcut, spent ages getting hold of a copy from vinyl exchange after it got deleted (apparently the most sort after CD at the time) eventually got one, then they re-released it t'other year. Absolutely fuckin' mint

I went to a party at the ski village and the dj man had that cd on but was pretending it was him mixing. Cheeky flucker!

Just been listening to the latest Outkast double album - Speakerboxx/A Love Below.

Excellent funkiness and a good work out for your bass-bins - recommended.

Outkast trivia for you pop fans, apparently Andre and the other one whos name I don't know - Pete for the sake of this conversation can't stand each other and the two albums were recorded completely separately and released under their collaberative name.

Each disc is written by one of the geezers, but if they hate each other did they record all the bits on each track seperately? Bizarre.

What are there previous albums like?

Legendary, although I haven't actually heard it! people speak very highly of them and their work up till now, as for the recording it thing, I dunno, guess you can do it separatly...

They wouldn't be the first to do things seperately - didn't the Gorillaz do their thang like that?

Very impressed by the production qualidy - just sounds superb. Also, not as hip-hop as I thought it would be - I'll have to get their back catalogue.....now, where's my Soulseek  :D

Hard to describe; mellow rock with a sense of humour?
You probably have heard them. Mr E's Beautiful Blues (the one that goes "Goddam right its a beautiful day") has appeared on a lot of film soundtracks. Novocaine for the Soul was a reasonably successful single too.

If you want to check them out, Daisies from the Galaxy is probably a good starting point. Make sure you get the one with Mr E as the bonus track.

Just been reading - the LPs were recorded seperately, with each other guesting on each disc, but I don't think they avoided each other in the studio and all that.

The Andre disk is the best one I reckon - less hip hop, really his own style. Even Norah Jones makes a guest appearance!
