Title: Beastmaker copies?
Post by: account_inactive on November 16, 2009, 07:47:23 pm
Saw these on Ebay the other day

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290368571486&_trksid=p2761.l1259#ht_2712wt_1165ck (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290368571486&_trksid=p2761.l1259#ht_2712wt_1165ck)

Looks like someone is trading off the back of the Ballsmaker boys

I don't think The Beastmakers were the first company to make a CNC's timber finger board ;)

No, I had one in 1986.

Not a change in hell of establishing a passing off case,

Beastmaker isn't registered as a TM and in any event no reference to the brand.
http://www.ipo.gov.uk/search.htm?prevwords=beastmaker+trademark (http://www.ipo.gov.uk/search.htm?prevwords=beastmaker+trademark)|wcthseridvln||&perpage=5&words=beastmaker+&sa=t, or indeed in any category/

I doubt you can claim infringement of protected IP with regard to the design as it looks entirely generic, after all, to be blunt a wooden fingerboard is just that.  I can remember home made ones not too disimilar from the Beastmaker about 15 or 20 years ago.

This should all be taken with a pinch of salt as I'm not an IP lawyer, but in short I'd say no case.

I'm aware of all this.............

 :rtfm:

that aussie one is good, nice wood, looks a bit like one of Ned's early ones, someone down the works the other day reckoned that they could do a better job with a ruler and a 'cutter' (whatever that is) and proceeded to slag our boards off for 5 minutes with me stood right next to them (which made me chuckle).

We're making the "elite" soon (next few weeks...honest) and are using british hardwoods (from tree surgeons originally)

am fairly clued up on IPA etc thanks to Uni being useful for once and sloper is pretty much spot on, just look at over-caffeinated sugary drink company vs monster and all these other brand wars which go on in the big bad world.

Think Bachar might have had the first wooden fingerboard, can anyone predate this?

Is the 'elite' going to be even more beastly than the 2000, Dan?

I dont really want to get into this, but I think you guys have answered your own quieries, Crusher Holds & Beastmaker are mostly certainly not the first people to make Fingerboards from wood.
And, the only similarity i can see between my boards and Beastmakers are that you hang from them and they are made of wood. My intention was and is to create unique boards (there is 2, and more to come) that has its own character and purpose. If you check one out close up you will see how the hold shapes and sizes 'progress' allowing you to train specifically for holding smaller and smaller hold size. And, the training plan that i have come up with that ive been using with the Crusher II is brilliant (and brutal) and im pretty pleased because i think ive 'stumbled' on a new idea. Its worked for me anyway... after 6 weeks I can do multiple pull ups of the monos... and thats with my buggered knuckles.

I'm aware of all this.............

CNC? ... Blood, Sweat and my Hand Craftmanship, ill take it as a compliment that you thought it was made on a CNC.

I saw it - it didn't mention whether the wheel tilted or not? I couldn't make my mind up if it would be any good... must admit that I haven't seen one previously.

Wow, that must take hours by hand. I can't believe you'd even be cutting minimum wage doing that  ???

I have seen ur boards and reckon they is well cool and proper burly dude. Have u thought of a name 4 them yet! But i dont believe u made them without a CNC u would have to be a right loser/loner 2 spend time wittling them out with router and a bit of sandpaper. P.S. do u do them in mens sizes 4 the monos!

Judging by his other post (http://ukbouldering.com/board/index.php/topic,9815.msg162812.html#msg162812) I think he may have just been having a laugh. No need for your head to explode Sloper.

Ah, too late.
