Title: AV Receivers
Post by: Control freak on November 10, 2009, 01:10:02 am
Ok, Ive got myself a nice new set of Jamo 5.1 speakers for the telly/playstation/dvd player but at the moment nothing to hook them up to. Ive been trawling around the different forums trying to get an idea of where the smart money goes but there basically hundreds to choose from. This (http://www.cnet.com.au/pioneer-vsx-1019ah-339297629.htm) one from Pioneer seems to be looking ok but multi room isnt a big requirement at the moment. Anyone got any good knowledge?

i got myself a half decent richer sounds own brand cambridge audio for a few hundred quid. It pretty good, my only complaint about it is when I turn it off with the remote it turns my tv back on!

Whenever I need to buy something along the audio lines which is fairly expensive, I get myself down the newsagent and read the whathifi magazine reviews.

It works for about half an hour until the sales staff kick you out, or I suppose you could buy the magazine :)

unfortunately sometimes biased.
you never see any of the gear with massive multi page ads getting a bad review

So read a few different mags - they can't all be biased to the same manufacturer...

Last time I was in smiths there was a whole freakin stand devoted to hifi magazines  ;D
