Title: New Boreal rock shoes
Post by: weakdave on October 23, 2009, 05:51:27 pm
Has anyone seen anywhere that stocks the new Boreal rock shoes (Tribal and Storm)? Just seen them on their website and they look quite cool

Dave, after 4 posts reg. 4 different shoe brands, surely you just need to get your ass into a good shop and try some boots on?   :-\ and just see what fits/suits.

Then get some Jet7's.

Boreals are shit, unless you are sponsored by them and get your shoes for free.

(Statement above is based on using 3 different models over the past 10 years)

And I have had a couple of pairs in the last couple of years and found them to be quit fine. Okay not a patch on the Stix but far from shit.

On the other hand I found both pairs of 5.10s I have owned to be complete and utter shit.

Lets just say I think your wrong.

I was taking the piss, surely you can see that 3 pairs in 10 years would hardly make me an expert  ;D

I've got some Boreal spiders. I think they're shit.

I have always found Boreal the best fitting shoe for my feet, but the rubber a bit shit on the older models compared to 5.10. I think this is due to them being Spanish where it's nice & warm where the rubber works better.
Then again I have seen pics of Jerry doing the Ace in the snow in Matrix shoes & Gullich on AD in Lazers so think that therory has been blown out of the water.....bollox.

Yeah, two real rubber dependent climbs there, Boreal must be the best.

I've got a pair of jokers and they're pretty good. Better for all day stuff than any of the many types of 5.10's I've got/had. Rubbers probably not as good though. Didn't Simpson do AD in Red Chillis? Definitely a route not dependant on quality footwear....

The point was that loads of hard shit was done years ago, so was more a comment about the quality of climber rather than the rubber on the shoe.

What the feck is wrong with Red Chillis? Ok the entry level ones are like wearing a bunch of pencil erasers glued onto some slippers, but the more advanced shoes are shit hot.

They certainly didn't harm Caff on what was billed as the world's hardest slab (Definitely a route which is dependant on quality footwear....)

I'll concede the Coronas are pretty good, but they're the exception that proves the rule. Every other model of red chilli shoe i've tried on have been woeful.

In fairness I don't think its the shoes can take credit there, he'd still probably climb E8 in wellies!

I think it's the same for all brands of shoes - some are good, some are shit. There's plenty of 5.10 models around that are pants.

  he could probably climb an overhanging E8 in wellies, but for climbing an 8b+ slab route - the footwear has to be a big factor, no question.

Bottom line - no major climbing shoe company has a line up where all shoes are amazing. They have to cater for all levels of climbing and cover different styles/disciplines.

Caff climbs 8b slabs in spite of his footwear, not because of it.

That's not what I was saying - having good quality footwear (rubber) can help. Not having any technique does not. I do not dispute that Caff has bags of technique, that is obvious.

The comment I made about dependency was a slant on Chillax's previous comment to get my point across about Red Chilli and shit shoes. It is not something I believe in at all.

Clearly I have failed in getting my point across - I will continue to study 'How to argue in internet forums (http://www.ninjapirate.com/logic.html)'.  :spank:

If having great shoes alone got you up climbs, I'd go out and buy a pair of La Sportiva Solutions and go onsight some E9's (without downclimbing  ;D)

I noticed some Boreal's in the new V12 outlet at Awesome Liverpool. £95  :o. That's some serious wedge for a shoe to campus in
