Title: Toru's Mat
Post by: Alan James, Rockfax on August 24, 2009, 08:58:28 pm
Can anyone help me discover what happened to Toru's Bouldering Mat?

I happened to be my mat which we'd leant him. So far we haven't as yet been able to ascertain where he was when it went missing, when it went missing, or how it went missing.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Alan

So it was your mat, was it?
If he doesn't know where or when it went missing, I suspect you'll have to fork out on a new mat.

He does, but in the haste of trying to drop him off at the airport, he wasn't able to communicate this information to us.

Yes I probably will have to fork out for a new mat, however I suspect that this one might not have been nicked and might have been picked up by someone who would be willing to return it.

At the risk of telling one's proverbial grandmother how to suck eggs, have you thought about sticking thread in the 'lost and found' section of this forum?

 ;)

I could have out it there but then I doubt anyone actually looks on that forum, and this is more of a mystery really. I was hoping someone who had been climbing with/near him might be able to shed some light.

Its migrated to Lost and Found anyway, but personally I tend to read "Unread Posts" rather than going to individual forums to see whats been posted.  Its the smart way to browse forums  8)

Do you mean that UKC is a waste of time when it comes to stuff like this? :-[

Anyway there was a thread on your shite about a mat found at stanage, some one thought it was mine as I had one stashed, perhaps you can get the tea boy Ryan to investigate?

Oh and in this day and age there are "other" forms of communication that might be utilised to obtain this crucial information (although admittedly they may not be within reach of the intended recipient at present).

:agree:

Another reason (one of many) why this site is better than the 'other' one.....

I wasn't aware this forum had that functionality, but yes, you are correct, that is the best way to browse forums if you are a regular visitor. Just like Forums Latest on UKC.

I was more interested in finding out when and where Toru was bouldering at Stanage which is why I asked here, since I thought someone may have seen him.

It would have been alot easier if you'd asked this in the first place...

Calm down, Calm Down! Alan just asked a pretty reasonable question and people are jumping down his throats!

Hope you find your mat, Al

Wasn't he out a fair bit with Tom Randall (http://ukbouldering.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=1118) (but also works @ The Edge) and Pete Whittaker (who I'm not sure is regsitered/posts here).  Perhaps speak to them?

Tried to post pretty much exactly this a few minutes ago but it didn't work, weird. Ho-hum, well said Will.

Would I be right in saying that UKC are accusing UKB of stealing their mat?   :-\

I would like to see what a torus mat actually looks like? Can only virtual cimbers use them?

Be a little awkward to avoid the hole in the middle.

No, you would be wrong.

The subtlety lies in the names the acronyms stand for...

UKC == UK Climbing
UKB == UK Bouldering

Now whilst bouldering is considered a 'sub-culture' of climbing and is therefore covered (although often derided) on UKC a forum specifically related to the activity in question is quite appropriate to ask the question in.

Well Alan, if you need a new pad we still have a few Ronins left (well bloody loads of them actually). Do you a good deal. And before anyone asks, no, it wasn't me, Dolly or Fatdoc that robbed it.
