Title: Another Bouldering Mat Question!
Post by: clgladiator on June 30, 2009, 07:28:14 pm
I've read the 'Ladybird Guide to Bouldering Mats' and am now stuck between getting a DMM Highball or the Moon Warrior, I may at some point also get a Snap Pizza but this will be a fair way in the future.

Good. Glad to hear it.

I don't understand the thread title though. I was expecting a question. Oh well, ho hum...

oops i missed out the question  :-[, basically i was wondering which one people think is the better mat? I'm not too sure about the hinge on the DMM though the 3 layers of foam seems pretty good.

I like my Highball, but it's starting to get a bit soft after lots of use.  The hinge is fine, good pad.
Never had a Moon so can't compare.

Same here, except that mine hasn't gone soft yet. Had it over a year, and almost exclusively bouldered with it. No problems with the hinge. I don't think it actually makes a difference.

The Moon pad is massive. Great for big landings, but I've not used one either.

Don't get me wrong, it's had a good amount of use and I'm not suggesting it's gone soft quick.  I'm just rueful it isn't as hard as it used to be.

And neither is my mat

I think my highball is brilliant. Dunno about any of the others though so no comparison but I'd definitely buy another one (or several).

I think the Warrior is basically a scaled down version of my Saturn pad that we have used fairly heavily for the last couple of years and the foam is still in top condition, with the bonus of it being made so the straps velcro away on top to land on safely and if the underside gets wet it just folds inside so your back stays dry n'all. The buckles and stitching have been bomber on it too.

Equally, fatneck's highball has lasted very well and the foam still seems great... as well as good construction buckle/stitching/zip wise.

The Moon pads have really impressed me of late.  I also like the DMM ones, although the colours are a bit garish

I got my Highball from V12, so it's red and not snot yellow.  Much classier  8)

Fuck you talkin'bout Wallis?

Yellow shit kicks Red any day of the week or weekend. Yellow is the muthafucka of colours Red is a simple minded yes man of a colour.

I heard that if you have a yellow pad, are under 6 feet tall, have facial hair and more than one pair of rock shoes, you're a great big wooftah.

Could be just a rumour though.   :-\

Get the red Highball, it's much cooler
