Bloody hell, good effort, what a pisser about slipping though, he was obviously well capable of doing it free.

Steck climbed Golden Gate over four days, leading every pitch, with his new wife, Nicole, belaying. (They were honeymooning in the western United States.)
They stole my ideal honeymoon!

What kind of wife doesn't offer to haul the gear up? No wonder he slipped.

It was a very, very strong experience for me

Beast.

If anyone hasn't seen the pic already this is worth giving UKC a hit for:

If he got back on and finished it, how's that not on sight? I thought all that redpoint shit was reserved for sport climbs. He could have come down and said he'd done it anyway. Typical though innit, as soon as someone does something really good and inspirational, doubting Thomas comes out and acts the cunt.

Well technically speaking it isn't really a full "onsight" and I think it would be wrong to claim it.

What it is though is an "awesome fucking achievement" and I don't think anybody has doubted that. This is an article about an inspiring ascent, not about a "failed" onsight.

Same same but different.

Shame he's such a shit climber ...

Obviously he's not got a cat-in-Hell's chance on Dracula Spectacular, Sex Lobster, or Stay Big.

Wow, indeed. There seems to be something to that speedclimbing lark after all.
