Title: ukb comedy club
Post by: andy_e on October 24, 2008, 08:01:29 pm
I'm really into UK sitcoms at the moment- Nathan Barley, IT Crowd, Garth Marenghi's, Mighty Boosh etc. and I'm looking to broaden my horizons, anyone got any tips?

p.s. if you haven't seen Summer Heights High yet, watch it, it's pucking genius.

Spaced is pretty good, well worth watching. It has one of the most true to life clubbing scenes I've seen.

UKB comedy club??

Jasper and Lagers, in Font, on a rainy day, in a cave, with a load of cheap red wine and a giant fish. Could spin to at least a few series.

Watched so many times I've lost count. The best one is definitely the one with the chavs and the oregano...

Yeah sorry, pretty obv one really, my fave episode is the robot one, that guy from the Fast Show is quite possibly the best guest villain ever. The one with the performance artist is good, if only for its excellent use of lines from Resi Evil 2.

I can't believe I forgot this one, but one of the greatest British sitcoms involves these guys

IMHO the funniest thing on telly for years. Each series has episodes of solid gold, but the 4th series is absolute class. Recommended.

I'd have thought that was pretty obv, considering their other program is a bag of dirt. And a sketch show.

Never really got Father Ted.
Black Books was brilliant.
Can anyone remember the name of the other Dylan Moran thing, bit earlier than Black Books I think where he was a fiance/boyfriend of a woman and had moved to her village and everyone there hated him (especially the womans brother who was played by the same guy who plays the shipping forecast bloke in Black Books I think), think it was on BBC2.
Green Wing was a work of genius IMHO

Ah yes, Black Books, I've heard it's amazing so I'll get on it! Cheers.

Watching Father Ted whilst cruising around County Clare on a field trip- classic! Every episode of father ted is my favourite, i can never decide which is the funniest!

Andi, how far back to do you want to go?

I really enjoyed series 1-3 of Coupling. Avoid series 4 though, it's fucking awful.

Sorry, missed that question! I'm keen to delve into the darkest depths of British TV, I love open all hours and the two ronnies, and also have a soft spot for the Good Life...

Although previously rubbished. I thought the Sir Digby Chicken Caeser sketches by Mitchell and Webb were very funny. Just not enough of them. The rest was fairly crap except numberwang.

Open all hours is one of my favourites. It's still brilliant and is often on something like UK Gold.

Shit the Bed.

Blackadder - All of them.
Mary Whitehouse Experience - some topical, but still funny.

One of my mates is a maths teacher and rues the day that Mitchell and Webb ever thought up Numberwang as it's now impossible to get through a single lesson without kids yelling out random numbers or declaring 'That's Numberwang!'

True true, "And that's a bad miss" was ok too.

Anyone watched 'The Armando Iannucci Show'?

Yeah, I used to love that. Particularly the bit where they'd have the guy that was 'Bricktop' in Snatch berating some household appliance in that wasn't working in his beautiful East London tones. "you're a washing machine so fucking wash!"

Chelmsford 123 lit my fire, back in the day.

Yeah that was classic- Esp when Rory McGrath couldn't get the jockstrap thing he needed for battle and ended up with the floppy frog one as it was the last thing left in the shop.
