Title: There IS NO SUCH THING as a hypothetical ascent
Post by: tc on September 27, 2010, 06:41:40 pm
Don't you start! There IS NO SUCH THING as a hypothetical ascent. I had an easy day out on Gable at the weekend. However, I'm claiming a hypothetical ascent of a hard route on Esk Buttress instead. Because, hypothetically, I might have done just that. With a bit of luck this will bring me the fame and peer group adulation I crave as a sad little fucker. OK? No, I thought not.

TSK. It's a hypothetical estimate...

...of an imaginary postulated ascent.

Trad grades should be used only for trad climbs done in a trad manner.

Must have wandered into UKC by mistake.

"So how hard is this new route of yours? E10?

Well no I didn't onsight it.

Ah, so it's a redpoint, then 8a?

Yes but it was scary and dangerous.

OK 8a X?

Lets ask tc what grade it gets........."

If only someone would invent a new grading system for headpointing.  No idea what you'd call it.

If there's going to be a pap new thread everytime you get 3 OT posts, UKB is going to go into meltdown.

Actually there were 5 O/T posts but due to my ineptitude I cut off at the wrong place.

I think 'Significant repeats' is a special case for leaving relatively uncluttered with O/T posts.

Sorry if I called it wrong.

I did it last year after getting up at 3am and cycling to the crag. I have at least 7 witnesses, including one Spanish climber who videoed the ascent and 4 jealous locals armed with chisels and hiltis.

I gave it E13 7c, but it is probably easier now.

What does Gary Bigson have to say about this. . . . I think we should ask his belayer.
