Not sure if this will work but here goes....
I thought if anyone has surplus fruit/ veg, we could post here and share it out a bit.
Does anyone fancy some of Percy's magnificent plums? Our tree is overloaded, and they are going to go to waste as we just don't have any time at the moment. South west Sheffield, just pm if you want to pop round and pick some.

Hazel Grove, south of Stockport on the A6, loads of tasty apples goin free
-
If nobody has helped you with your glut (our fridge/freezer already fully fruited up), you could let these folk know http://www.growsheffield.com/pages/groShefAbund.html (http://www.growsheffield.com/pages/groShefAbund.html)
I think Manchester has a group like this too Jim

There is a massive BOX of my PLUMS down on the front desk at the Works. Help yourselves. Please. There's still kilos of the bloody things on the tree, which has broken branches as a result of the weight of the fruit on them. Bumper year for plums this year!
-
The Abundance lot don't seem to be still doing it, that's a shame.
-
Both sets of our nippers grandparents seem to have plums aplenty this year - must have been a good year year. I'm just eating as many as I can and shitting through the eye of a needle as a result.
-
I will come and get some more then if that is OK with you and leave you with a large jar of plum chutney and plum jam then to be getting on with.

Good work Butters! I churned out 11 big pots of plum jam with the assistance of my Mum yesterday (ex-home economics teacher, and WI stalwart - she knows how to do jam) and its very nice - even if I do say so myself. Even our little ones like it, so it must be good!
That all said, don't for the love of God bring me any more plum jam, but I'll defo have a pot of the chutney as long as you take some more plums away with you.

I've got about a third of a plate of spaghetti bolognese here if anyone can get to mine before it goes cold.

I will bring you two bottles of chutney then - no way am I trying to match your mother in the plum jam making stakes! I know I will lose... :(
Also found a recipe for plum vodka (http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/514614) - got to be worth a try... :alky:
-
I was wondering what to do with the 2 litres of vodka we have stashed away - neither of us can abide the stuff (me particularly after a two week work stint in Moscow).
Plum vodka, here we come.
-
Might be easier to use this recipe (http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/grapevine/juicy-gossip/plum-vodka_37314.html) (third one down) as there is no chance of boiling the alcohol off.
-
Too late - its done. Although, to be honest, I'm not too bothered about boiling off a bit of the alcohol - should make it a little more like a very spicy alcopop, as opposed to vodka with plums in it. It certainly smelt pretty strong when I bottled it...
Ready in time for Christmas :pissed:

Are you sure? It seems to be ongoing by the look of the website (news updated in july makes no mention of problems/closure). Can't find any reference to it ending by googling.

The email address was out of date, found the new one. Thanks for that!

Got a load of sweet pepper seedlings about 6 inch's high in pots and could probably spare a chilli plant too, these are a little bigger. Looking like we should get a good crop of apples this year although they are at least a month away

I've got a bucket full of cooking apples going free
in Sheffield
