Title: Crag Database/API
Post by: smeb on March 24, 2020, 09:55:15 pm
Hi all,

While we're trapped inside I thought I'd take the chance to start working on a climbing app as a little personal project. I can't find much myself but I was wondering if anyone knew of a (preferably free to access) repository of UK crag information?

Thanks, Sam

UKC is pretty comprehensive. The BMC RAD might be worth a look too, and 27Crags already has an app and is also a decent resource.

UKC is most likely gonna be the best in the UK because of the large UK userbase who help keep it up to date. Understanbly they're quite protective about it though so I'd be surprised if you were allowed API access.

BMC RAD would be a better option if you need a big list of crags. Might be worth a look at supplementing it with peakbouldering.info data as well.

UkC won’t let you near theirs (I bet) but you might be able to web scrape most of their data?

Drop me an email on paul at ukclimbing.com. We gave the BMC access to the UKC API for their RAD database.
