The smell woke me up at 3:30AM and I wandered round our local streets looking for the source to no avail. Couldn’t believe it when I read it was coming from the Roaches.

Rain this afternoon has apparently helped looking at Staffs fire service Twitter and they’ve got a helicopter dumping water on it too. Fucking scary.

Went over there for a walk today. Huge area of moorland affected behind the Skyline but surprisingly small area burnt below the crag. Apparently it started in the woods below the Skyline which was quickly controlled but the wind blew burning material over onto the moors behind.

Anyway, all the climbing has escaped as far as I can tell, possibly some minor buttresses on the Skyline affected but nothing else. The burnt area goes very close to the Cube and Doxey’s Pool bouldering areas but crucially not far enough.
