Title: Virtual Font trip
Post by: lagerstarfish on February 21, 2021, 09:12:30 pm
So, Andy Owen just did a virtual ski tour on Twitter this weekend. I really enjoyed the sillyness of it.

Who's joining me for a virtual trip to Font?

We'll be meeting at The Broadfield and piling into cars tomorrow morning.

Can someone sort some accommodation out?

See you all tomorrow

Drivers so far - Ian Harrison is taking his Lotus. There's no way I'm getting in that. Jasper is taking his Golf, but he might not be up in time to catch the ferry.

Can DT90 and Cupboard take their 205 GTis ?

The imaginary weather forecast is perfect.

We've got a whole week in Font and probably no rain.

I've got some day tickets for fishing  on the canal in front of the palace if anyone fancies that on a rest day

Fishing is tempting but in virtual font I reckon I'll be able to climb all day, every day as if it's the first morning.
Maybe an early morning session or two before climbing would work.

I'm on the overnight ferry from Hull. Will be losing signal soon. Arriving zeebrugge at 7am, there'll be no traffic and all the speed cameras are broken so I'll be there before lunch.
Have had the maid do the shopping so fridge will be full and we can go straight to the crag.

Me, footwork, dunnyg, 36C and fifteen pads in a Skoda Fabia hatch. Just on the A1, getting the ferry at 1am. Gonna do the Pregnant Horse Parabola to get around Paris, arrive at the campsite at 5am, and sleep in the car for an hour. Quick round of mini golf in the morning, then the patisserie, then we're going to burn off some Italian kid in bright trousers and slag each other off loads.

Psyched  :punk:

Wagons roll!

Although I am a slow driver, I expect this virtual journey to take very little time.

Let me know which crags you end up at.

I can pick up a couple of people on the way if anyone still needs transport.
Plenty of space for pads.

Nipping to Carrefour for a coffee and PaC for breakfast plus baguette, Lemon Yop, saussicon, anchois piquant, some madeleines, some stinky cheese and a slab of tiny beers to get through the day. Anyone need anything else?

Probably stop in Decathlon for some chalk, expect to leave with a kite, a frisbee, some socks and a cheap fleece.

I must say, this is a well timed trip. I have genuinely been binging font videos the past half week as it's the only thing keeping my psyched at the moment. Glad I was able to make this trip.

We'll be at Isatis today. The plan is to head deep into the trees to check out some new things, but inevitably we'll spend 95% of the day around the first boulders next to the car park. I love it.

Come say hi, I'm the good looking one with the baguette.

Just giving Footwork a masterclass on L'Angle Ben's at the moment.

He was complaining about his shoes being too baggy, yet I've now done it barefoot, in socks, in sandals, in his shoes, and in some 7 foot German guy's shoes (cheers Hans). Maybe Footwork had one too many Pelforths yesterday.

Anyway, I'm just nipping over to Karma now, but we've left a Paris-Brest on top of Ben's for Footer's to get when he eventually tops it, but if you're quick you might beat him to it :2thumbsup:

As luck would have it, we’re staying in a small place in The Marais for the week. We’re mainly here for the Nina Stemme/Stefan Vinke/Jonas Kaufmann Ring Cycle at the Opéra Bastille. Daniel Barenboim had to cancel but, amazingly, Bernard Haitink has agreed to come out of retirement to conduct. Travelling by Eurostar so no car but I can easily get the train from the Gare de Lyon out to Fontainebleau Avon or Thomery if someone can pick me up from one of those. The Dame Jouanne Mauve Circuit might be a bit of an ask as I need to be on the 2pm train for curtain up at 4pm. I’ll be happy anywhere with a yellow or orange circuit. I’ll bring the jetboil.

It only returns the top 100 problems matching the search. Should be do-able

Well in a typical case of Courage Du Canon, having got nowhere near Fil En Aiguille, the moment Chris turned up with his camera I saw it off. I knew all I needed was an audience.

He's doing well, found the span lower down easier than I did but needs to bear down on the right hand bump...he's getting close though.

We'll join you up there, and drink it all in. (UKB promotes drinking responsibly).

Any ideas for a meal tonight? Not been to Aux Saveurs Du Gatinais in Milly for while, but might need to book for a large table. Maybe save it for later in the week.

I was rather hoping that Lagers would be manning the BBQ at the gite....

I'm still here! can someone bring me some pelforth brune. Just one more go....

'morning all!
This evening's first round of beers is on me. While I was walking back to ze bike at dawn, after doing La Pierre Philosophale, Ignacio Etxavarria, the Basque guy who made the video, and who happens to be an undercover former olympic weighlifting gold medalist, made me know that the olympic plates' diameter is 450 mm. That means that in all these years I've been pulling with a 25 mm deficit.
YYFY.
I like the smell of iron in the morning.

Dammit I was considering an easy circuit somewhere!

That said...height dependant crux, popular Font 7a on everyone's videos - this is a very poorly-disguised setup for the inevitable "it's 6b at best" downgrade, right?

And as for Font elbow, I think it's 36C's knuckles I need a sitrep on...

En route to Buthiers with another pain aux for elevenses.

 Brilliant. I love Petit Bois.

Thanks for clearing Elephant lagers, you must have some good contacts in the gendarmerie. I'd like to eventually finish off Le Coeur, and also that 7a-ish slopey off vertical arete thing (?)

Edit: I think it's called Le Bouton (https://bleau.info/elephant/7854.htmlp)

Woke up this morning and it was one of those perfect, crisp, cold days dans la foret. Early morning and the wisps of mist still hung over the fields. The birds were singing in the trees, the air was clean and clear and the sky was blue. The sandstone was perfect beneath my fingertips, cold and smooth, yet hard, grippy and coarse, begging to be climbed. It was going to be a good day.

Hell yeah. Send train has been running at Petit Bois and Manoury. Next stop Greau, calling at Elephant and terminating at La Tête.

Well I certainly shan't be wasting any of my FONT trip on nonsense like the alps. Think I'll head over to Gorges du Houx for L'Inaccessible Absolu (https://bleau.info/houx/545.html), then the stuff on the lune bloc next door.

For someone who doesn’t drink, you start early when you do. I hope you washed it down with a van rouge.

I'm inclined to leave the virtual Font trip permanently open so that we can dip in and out as we need.

I was concerned that it might become a cocktail of Hotel California and Land of Toys, but on reflection I am confident that it can become a pint of Good Hope served with a bag of Mr Porky's traditional nostalgia in The Sheaf View
