Title: Praise for Alpkit Repair Station
Post by: shark on March 14, 2020, 09:24:35 am
I was pretty hacked off when the zip of my expensive 2 year old Arcteryx jacket started not working properly and even more hacked off when I discovered that their returns policy required you to post the item to Switzerland at your own expense with no guarantee that it qualify under their returns policy.

Instead took to the Alpkit Repair Station at their Hathersage store and asked them to replace the zip. They took a look and instead replaced the slider at minimal cost. Result.

Ooh interesting I’ve got a pair of Windstopper trousers and a rucksack that need zip repairs, I’ll have a look, thanks.

Amen to this.

Exactly the same thing happened with my Arcteryx jacket. Boils my piss how companies preach sustainability and environmental responsibility but don't follow through with actions.

In a similar vein, a screw came loose and dropped off our pram / pushchair recently. The manufacturer declined to supply a spare screw but offered to sell me a new chassis for over £300. A few choice comments on their social media and funnily enough they sent me a spare screw free of charge.

Sounds good, I got zip issues left right and centre.

If the Alpkit repair stations aren't (Hathersage / Keswick) feasible (and you're in the NW) then I can also recommend these guys:

I’m trying to send something back to Patagonia to be fixed right now. They took 4 weeks (and one prompt) to get back to me.

Anyone used the Patagucci repair service before?

You've seen their Covid response, right (currently just US)?

Pretty sure it’s there global response. I was meant to give a talk at Shaff for there Patagonia action works, but they have cancelled that.

Oh - have they shut everything down etc...? In which case I’d best wait to post it until after...

Do any of these do postal repairs at reasonable cost?

Top Wife took her North Face fashion down jacket into Hathersage before Christmas so it could be sent off for repair. Big rip from the gate at school. I went upstairs to look around for ten minutes. Came back down. 'Are they sending it off?' 'No, they've already repaired it and I've paid.' Cost £10 and you can barely see the repair. Top service.
