I tried to put up an avatar from a photo on flick. It does not seem to show on UKB posts yet it seems that loads of people are clicking on it through to my flickr page. What do I need to do to get it to show, I followed the instructions, I think.
Thanks

Have you uploaded the image to UKB from your PC? The avatar's (IIRC) dont have to be hosted somewhere else and connected via a link (if thats what you've done..?)

What instructions did you follow?
If it was these (http://www.ukbouldering.com/wiki/index.php/HowTo_Embed_Pictures_to_UKBouldering) then you're on the wrong lines as you can't embed a photo from Flickr as your Avatar.
First of all, you'll likely need to resize your image from Flickr, so download it (or if you've still got it on your current local computer resize that).
To set you're avatar you then need to go to Profile -> Forum Profile. The top box then allows you to set your Avatar picture, and you should upload it from file.
If you've been trying to specify the URL of an image on Flickr exactly what have you been putting in? If its the URL of the page on which the picture is displayed that won't work as, well its not the URL of the picture. To get the URL of a picture right-click on it and select "Copy Image Location" and then paste that in, but you still may find that it doesn't work because you've selected too large an image (it might be that the SMF forum software resizes images but I don't think it does).
Anyway, if none of this helps you need to be more descriptive in exactly what you are doing as I've no idea from what you've written.

The main issue is the sizing, I've found.
When you save user settings do you get an error message about your avatar?
-
Sorry about this but after I did some work on the forums earlier this week, the avatars directory was left as non writable so it would have rejected your uploads :-[

Probably the problem, when I try to download the picture onto UKB I get a message about something being unwritable.

Sounds as though Bubba has sorted it now though, so try again.
And for reference when you move data/images files/stuff....
Your computer ---> Somewhere on the internet == Uploading
Somewhere on the internet ----> Your computer == Downloading

Sorry for the terminology failure, I promise to say a few hail marys and holy fathers as penance next time I go to confession. :spank:

Whatever floats your boat, I doubt it will make much difference.
It just avoids confusion and ambiguity if the correct terminology and nomenclature is used.

So what about somewhere on the internet to somewhere else on the internet? Just checking. As I confuse this all the time.
-
What do you confuse moving things from one location on the internet to another, neither of which are the computer you're using with?
Copying or syncing. If its sticking images or videos into these forums from Flickr/Photobucket/YouTube/Vimeo then its simply embedding.

What's it called if I were to take something from the internet and put it on my computer and then put it somewhere else on the internet and then put it in yet another different place on the internet and then bring it back to my computer, print it, and send it with the royal mail to a house in Surrey?
