Title: Hartington: things to do with toddlers?
Post by: Herbert on August 26, 2017, 09:06:09 am
Spending a night at Hartington YHA en route to Scotland with a 2yr old and 5 month old in a couple of weeks. Any suggestions for child friendly-ish things to do nearby? I'm considering a trip to the Roaches for some exploring, and maybe a little bouldering/soloing, but wet weather alternatives would be appreciated...

Gentle walk into Dovedale comes to mind.

Lots of nice limestone dale type walking round there. Wolfescote/Beresford Dale is a nice short walk from Hartington and a bit less busy than Dovedale. It has a couple of kid friendly short caves you can check out with a headtorch. If you like caves then you could do worse than check out Thor's cave and Nan Tor (Wetton Mill Rock Shelter) a few miles away in the Manifold valley. The latter has a cafe by the river with ducks to feed.
