does anyone know of good headtorches for night/winter bouldering sessions?
i need it to be quite tight fitting (coz i'm small), have different light stength settings (for climbing, camping etc.), needs to be fairly small and light aswell.
i thought about the petzl tikka xp but wanted to know what you guys tought. :)
info, links etc. would be great.

Petzl tikka's are good but yoour probably best with a gas/electric lamp.

i've got a gas lamp but i'm looking for a head torch.

Tikkas are lightweight, but not very bright. Much like yourself, Munkii ;)
Sorry :lol: on a more helpfull note...
I've got an eveready headlamp that has more LEDs than my Tikka (and was much cheaper). It is heavier, but loads brighter. I'll try to find a link for you later.

Petzl Myo XP is meant to be much better than the Tikka.

i also tried to give you plus karma for saying sorry but didnt know you had to wait 25 minutes, it was only a joke, i get negative karma all the time (as you can see).
personally i don't go around sniffing old ladies bathroom carpet so i wouldnt know what they smell like.

hmmmmmmmm.
the tikka xp i lighter, but the myo xp has better battery life and the boost mode doesn't go off in 20 seconds...

I was hoping to retire on the balance of my karma this week, but due to the current economic crisis the conversion rate of points to pounds meant that it was only possible if I kept my -ve k below 4. You pushed me over the acceptable tax point and now I will have to keep posting shite until I am 85.
This is not a serious post.

Don't worry lagers, since you've now hit -4 on the karma you will only ever keep it below -4 (it would be impossible to have -ve karma < 4 since it only starts at zero ;)), so mission accomplished, you can retire :P

Munkii: Get a lantern. Headtorches, no matter how bright are directional and you would ideally want to illuminate a larger area at any given time.

or a car battery, jump leads and a kitchen spot light fashioned into a tube, mounted in a bike bottle holder with a tripod base (No i'm not kidding!)

Or a cordless drill with a burnt out motor which you butcher and combine with a 50watt low-voltage halogen spotlight (no I'm not kidding either)

Ok. So a serious answer... yes the Tikka XP is great. Awesome for walking, camping, and climbing. Lightweight, and lovely. To be honest, it's best with a lantern around too, but as an addition, the Tikka XP is great. MYO XP is too heavy (better for night navigation tho), but the Tikka XP is light and small enough to take with you everywhere.
Tikka would be shite, but Tikka XP is brill. Any other questions?

i've always done night bouldering with a bigger light than you'd want to wear (i.e. friends home made super bright bike lights/lanterns etc) but its good to wear a headtorch to see when topping out.

I reckon a a headtorch could cause an injury if it got shoved where the sun don't shine.

For ultimate illumination you want a Myo XP on your swede for the handholds and a zipka on each knee aimed at each foot. I've discovered soloing like this is amazingly unscary, its like bigwalling in cloud, there's no sense of exposure at all.

Strap a few of those coloured alpkit ones to your knees and you'll have a mobile disco.

Myo XP is by far the best headtorch I've ever had. Well worth the extra.

Word. Really rate this headtorch and agree that it's the best I've owned too. Seems pretty robust after a summer of heavy usage too.
