hi all,
broke a rib or two about a week ago (dws fall). about to try climbing again. anyone have any experiences with this? the dr said that although it might hurt lots, i wont make it worse by climbing (bad falls excepted). just wondered how people had found climbing with this kind of injury. at the moment it doesnt hurt that much apart from coughing, laughing and sneezing (which really hurt!!)
cheers 3/9

Dear September 3rd
It will hurt for at least 6 weeks but if you can cope you should be able to climb, assuming it was just "cracked" ribs and not flail segment etc.
Hope that helps

I once "cracked" a rib coughing at uni which was pretty painful and thought it was going to be impossible to climb with, but turned out to be fine, infact I think i first did the nose a burbage with that cracked rib, it was fine.

Must have been strong stuff in the Hooka pipe Dave.

i seem to remember it was like a chesty cold i'd had for weeks, some intense coughing action. i was pretty pleased with myself.

yep.
Dave that rib wasnt broken matey, you couldnt pick up a pad with a broken rib! not unless you have a serious painkiller habit. strained intercostal muscle yes, mild pleurisy yes.. fractured ribs due to coughing are very rarely seen excpt in the very old, inform and osteoporotic!! :o
