Lakes generally is not great for scrambling.

For quiet you need to go to Eskdale/Duddon, Far Eastern fells or northern fells.

I actually think the Langdale Horseshoe taking in Jack’s Rake is maybe the most obvious thing I can think of. It’s very rocky over Esk Pike/Bowfell/Crinkle Crags and if it’s clear they’ll get views across to Scafell Pike. Classic scenery with bail out option down The Band.

Loads of big days out depending on your definition of that eg from head of Borrowdale (Seathwaite) Styhead Tarn-Great End-Scafell Pike-Corridor Route (not quite scrambling but rocky) - Gable is some of the most impressive scenery. Add on Scafell via Foxes Tarn route for more scrambling. But depends on your definition of ‘big day’!

Pinnacle Ridge on St Sunday Crag is the longer classic that I know. If you want a big day out I'm not sure what you'd then link that in to. Depending on the ability of your relatives and how much of it they need roping up for it might take all day? I'm not sure as I did it one evening in 2 or 3 hours (including walk in and out).

There's things like Striding Edge (not really a scramble, it's an exposed walk), Sharp Edge, and Jack's Rake but none of those are a "big scrambling day".

I think some of the longer scrambles you might find are actually ghyll scrambles but obviously you'd need the weather and flow conditions for it.

That's the limit of my knowledge on the subject. Maybe look at Pillar?

I’m more surprised that she didn’t flash them all to be honest.

Worth noting, I don't see this being hugely useful for building work capacity (day fitness) for bouldering personally - I find my work capacity for easy climbing and for hard climbing seem quite distinct and the only way to build the latter is doing big days of hard climbing... But I do think it will build base endurance, so if that is a limiting factor for someone's work capacity on harder stuff maybe they'll have a different experience. My and Dave's limiting factors are probably rarely the same thing!

Tanguy Merad had a good couple of days on the 8th and 9th of April, establishing La cinquantaine éclatante 9a+, Brouncha 9a and then Hannigraal 9b at L’Abattoir near Grenoble.

I've actually done a reasonable amount of this kind of thing in the past, with various different exercises - powerball, doing bicep curls and wrist curls with dumbbells only (or 1kg weights), holding a pinch block or pick-up edge with not much weight, EMS machines, and even juggling! Usually swapping exercises when I get bored but racking up blocks of time in front of the TV or similar.

It's really hard for me to know what does/doesn't work, but my feeling is that it's quite a lot better than nothing but not as good as "real" ARCing. It seemed to keep my fitness up when I couldn't do normal fitness for a summer due to my finger. Of course maybe that would have happened anyway. It's a lot easier than normal training to to in front of the TV, in the car (I don't do it when driving personally), or in a hotel room with work. I've also found it useful when injured - sometimes doing more ARC seems dangerous on my joints but smashing out some powerball and weights can be quite safe (though the weights can be aggro on elbows or nerve issues). Doesn't need chalk so easier to do in the living room too.

It's also nicer on skin. Doing anything for an hour or more seems like it can get tweaky so I think swapping exercises makes sense. I'm currently doing some with Pinch Thing and Powerball, and am going to keep doing it this summer at a highish volume along with normal Aero Cap to try to build some more fitness. We'll see if it works... Or more likely I won't really be able to tell like most things 😂

Ryuichi on his 4th day of trying, twice as fast as he did sleepwalker stand, although he hasn't done it yet (unless he did it last month and hasn't said yet).

Not my usual topic of conversation  but we have some relatives visiting from abroad this summer. They are keen to do a big day out scrambling or maybe climbing something easy (e.g. that non-climbers wouldn't need rock shoes for) in the Lakes.

Any recommendations for something good, ideally classic, not totally rammed in summer hols? Appreciate that final one might be asking a bit much but you never know... They are not afraid of a big walk if that helps (and I can pretend it's good for kneebar endurance)

Thanks!

Aidan and Ryuichi have both dropped the last move recently, so looks likely!
