Hi Guys,
I'm going to be visiting family in Edinburgh in the days between Christmas and New Year and would love to squeeze in a couple cheeky hours at a wall. I know that both Alien A2 and Ratho are open, but having never been to either I've no idea which would be best.
I'm only interested in bouldering - what would people recommend?
Cheers,
Josh

I like Alien Rock!
Ratho's ok, I suppose... 😉

Alien Rock 2 for bouldering, without a shadow of doubt

Plus you can easily get to AR2 in (close to) central Edinburgh with public transport, so don't need to worry about new booze laws. Worth going for a look at Raho though, if you've never been before.

FWIW I didn't find it too bad the one time I tried getting to Ratho from Haymarket.
Bus to Ratho Village then walk along canal (head torch would have been useful though).

I should point out my bias, since I helped build Alien...

Never been to Alien but I definitely rate Ratho even just for the bouldering - I've travelled over a few times from Glasgow just to boulder at Ratho instead of sticking to TCA (Ratho has a much nicer selection of holds and a better selection of problems that are powerful rather than knacky / precarious). Adam L was complaining about the problem setting last time I was there but at the stuff up to & including V6 I can vouch for them being good fun problems. There's plenty to go at with two full bouldering areas too.

Turns out my sister (who I'm staying with) doesn't live far from Ratho, so it's more likely I'll end up heading there.
Nice to know it's still pretty decent though.
Thanks fellas
