Shit, I can't believe 4 years passes so quickly.
So whats everyone psyched for this year in the action in hongcouver? Be good to see Shelley go one better this time on the tea tray and bag a gold.
I'm also rooting for canada take the mens and womens golds in the hockey too. Plus some general carnage in the snowboard cross.
If anyone wants the full schedule to download, its here:
http://www.vancouver2010.com/dl/00/17/26/compschedolympic_86d-wd.pdf (http://www.vancouver2010.com/dl/00/17/26/compschedolympic_86d-wd.pdf)
-
I'm psyched for just about everything, apart from the "artistic" events.
Got to watch some of the luge WC when we were in Whistler last year, that track is mental.
-
Always got to be the downhill skiing. I get a strange satisfaction when someone stacks it on a downhill course. I also like to spend my evenings relaxing to a spot curling.
-
Should be sweet. Did you see Shaun White's training facility for the season?

Careful though, kids. Some of this snowboarding is dangerous and should be banned, apparently....
What a crock....
-
I dunno some of the aristic ones ain't too bad.

Sorry that was rather juvenile.
Boarder cross definitely. Think ski-cross is in too. Love the downhill/luge/bobs obviously but also really get into the nordic events especially the biathlon. Also short track speed skating too.
Not so keen on the hockey. Great live but rubbish to watch on the TV.
-
Was watching Ski Sunday the other week and realised I'd forgotten how awesome the giant slalom and the downhill are.
Is it all going to be on an stupid o'clock though?
-
vancouver is something like 7 hours behind GMT, so possibly. Stuff that happens during the day could be on live in our evenings though. The mens hockey final for example is in the middle of the day their time, so should be on 7ish onwards our time.

Men's downhill 7pm Saturday night, parfait.

I want to watch another American start a premature celebration.
-
That would amuse. Bloody showboater.
-
I like the snowbaording stuff, and the figure skating. :-[
-
Careful though, kids. Some of this snowboarding is dangerous and should be banned, apparently....
I was in Salt lake city in 2002 and it had been banned at a couple of resorts because of the amount of snow it moved. Two of my favourtie resorts ever.
-

shit i'd forgot about that. just about the funniest thing ever. Cocky bitch!

Not banned, just never ever been allowed at Alta and Deer Valley. And nothing to do with the amount of snow moved, just narrowmindedness of management.
Not saying a crap snowboarder doesn't trash snow, but that's not the reason they aren't allowed.
-
That's hilarious, I didn't see that at the time, it looks like she tries to do a rubbish grab and messes it up, gutted!
-
It was Snowbird and Alta I was thinking of, didn't end up at Deer Valley (reading more they just don't want snowboarders to stay swanky) because of its reputation and lift pass costs. Alta is supposedly marketed at being a hardcore skiers mountain and this no boarders. The latter was probably one of the best places I've been skiing.
-
I want to watch another American start a premature celebration.
Lindsey Jacobellis Women's Snowboard Finals Olympics (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iThQ1po1JLU#)
-
Especially good cos I think the bird what won it was the first one to fall near the start of the race, probably thought she'd blown it in an olympic final, but cos everyone else fucked up even worse she won it. Its almost a fairytale story.
-
Genius!
-
Alta is supposedly marketed at being a hardcore skiers mountain and this no boarders. The latter was probably one of the best places I've been skiing.
Not disputing these facts (although Snowbird has allowed snowboarders for a few years now), just saying snowboarding isn't banned, it was just never allowed, and it isn't because of people snowboarding badly and trashing the snow that it isn't allowed.
-
Another great reminder that "you don't score until you score"!
-
I'm also rooting for canada take the mens and womens golds in the hockey too.
If that happens - it will be absolute mayhem here :pissed:
-
ou est le neige?
BBC News - How do you make a mountain snowy? (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8507770.stm#id8500000/8507600/8507620)
Thought it was a bad idea to do it there.
-
ou est le neige?
Thought it was a bad idea to do it there.
Yeah - it's been a strange winter here so far - I can see Cypress from my office window as I type - the top half of the mountain has lots of snow, but the lower half, where they have the 4-cross and other stuff has seen bugger all snow since Nov - the freezing level on the local North Shore mountains has remained resolutely high during this El Nino winter - something that pretty much all the climatologists predicted would happen....... why they didn't just move it all to Whistler I don't know - they've had a pretty good season there.
-
Guess they wanted to spread it about a bit?
Seems Whistler isn't getting masses of the events
-
Whistler probably won't have the facilities/space for the shit like speedskating and hockey etc. Vancouver already has the canuck's rink (gm place, seats 18k plus) for the hockey etc.
-
Yes, but you think it would make sense to choose somewhere with pretty solidly reliable for the snow events.
Cypress Mountain will host the 2010 freestyle skiing (aerials, moguls, and ski cross), and all 2010 snowboard events (half-pipe, parallel giant slalom, snowboard cross).
I think Cypress Hill wasn't available.
-
Sad start to the games :(
Anyone manage to sit through the whole opening ceremony without FFing? Some good bits but I think Nelly Furtardo and Bryan Adams lasted a nanosecond.
-
I think I'll just be recording the daily highlights...
-
Conditions in the Women's Moguls looked decidedly spring like.
Bet they are gutted after the excellent start to the season they had.
-
Watched the canada shortie's hockey against slovakia, finished 18-0. Apparently the most one sided scoreline in the history of womens hockey in the olympics. You could see they were getting a bit embarrased every time they scored towards the end.
-
after Ginger Icon Shaun White's halfpipe lessons yesterday, it's time for extreme tea tray queen Shelley to possibly bag GB a gold coin. Think it's on well late tonight, so I'll be in bed. But I'll look forward to firing up The Internet tomorrow morning to see how she's doing, innit.
-
Reading shit on the bbc today sounds like Shell-E is having issues with the course being pretty fast etc. Sounds like we've got another shortie in the running, amy williams, so keep an eye out for her too.
-
Did anyone see the Women's Downhill last night? To say that it was carnage would be a bit of an understatement - Anja Paerson wiped out after flying 60 odd metres off one of the jumps but at least she did better than the French skier who crashed about 3 seconds after leaving the start.
-

FAIL.
Seriously though we shouldn't be so harsh. Its easy to forget that france doesn't have any mountains or a history of winter sports.

For a view of the games from a different angle, check out the blog of britain's sole representative in the hockey - shorties referee Joy Tottman:

-
Watched the first 5 runs before bed last night. She was fast. Then looked hot when she took her helmet off and waved her hair. Shelley's second run much better. Possibility for two on podium?
-
Yeah she looked well.
-
Good to see the Yanks being sporting as ever and trying to get her kicked out. Even better to see them being told politely to fuck right off.
She is fit isn't she. Is there some connection between being good looking and chucking yourself down an ice chute on a tea tray as Shelly's not exactly a pig either?
-
Shelly's not exactly a pig either?
she's had a binlid since turin too. I don't know statistically how many young mums would be mad keen on wearing a luge suit on international telly.
-
Shaun White. Holy shit. Head and shoulders above everyone else. Still a ginger though.
-
anybody else watching the skeleton bob live?
I am. I really wish the commentator would stop saying how guaranteed GB is of a gold, its just asking for trouble. He's as bad as Murray Walker.
-
She's handling it very well....I'd hate to see the best performer fail. And what is that shit about her helmet? I'd give her mine.
-
Yeah, I was just saying to the Boss how I'd wish they'd STFU.
I don't believe in jinx etc, but every time someone (eg Williams) is doing well, these fucking commentators waffle on about nothing else. "that's pretty good, but not as good as Williams", "Williams did it better than that", "that start's super fast but I reckon Williams would be quicker if she did a big shit before she started".
Fuck off, these people are at the Olympics because they are at the top of the sport- stop patronising them just because we happen to be in with a chance.
-
When does this shit kick off? I've just got in and am slightly inebriated. Staring at some ice is becoming tedious and I have no idea when 16.55 is in relation to the real world. i.e. Shefield time. Was that Jon DeMontjoye wandering about to the left of my screen?
Ah. Here we go.
-
I am becoming entranced by the way their bottoms jiggle when they set off.........
-
Was that part of the conversation with the Boss?
-
Shhhh, the Boss is in bed now.
I'm liking some of these performances up the back straight.
-
Come on Shelly.
-
well its started well for shelly...
good run.. -0.42
how come britain seem to be good at this sh*t?
-
Massive percentage of crazy women?
-
We have had 6 months of winter this year?
-
Yeah!! A gold for Williams.
Perfect reward for the consistency.
And the jiggly bum.

Great stuff! And she's fit.

WTF is a Wu-Tang in this lame four cross ski shit? It also seems to be full of fat twats in 80's style Troll body suits....
-
they seem to be calling that first flat top kicker thing a wutang.

At which point the shortie pipes up, 'I didn't realise the wu-tang were named after an actual thing'.

You're not joking - the nation is in mourning today.
Tough game - the septic goalie was on fire though - he won it for them.

This would be like if they beat us in the upcoming World Cup would it not? Or a bit worse. Like Scotland beating us in the World Cup maybe? :(

Yeah - pretty much - the canadians consider hockey to be *their* game - plus, they have a gentle ('cos this is canada), but deep dislike of the yanks. Everyone is pretty pissed off this morning.......
-
it'd be like we were scotland and england beat us at marsbar battering.
Looks like the yank netminder stood on his head.
-
Wouldn't the Ski Jump Team event be better if they did it en masse, in a bob-sled for example?
-
WTF is a Wu-Tang in this lame four cross ski shit? It also seems to be full of fat twats in 80's style Troll body suits....
A Wu Tang is a kicker with an extremely steep take off often with a step down landing. Think nearly a quarter pipe. The idea is to create an obstacle taken at slow speed and perhaps even stalling the riders and so is often at the top of the course. Getting a good line into the jump is essential.
I too thought the ski cross, which was held on what was definately built as a boarder cross course, was entertaining for the crashes but was full of 80's stylee fat bastards. To be fair the boarder cross riders didn't have much more style. ;D
As for Sean on the other hand

Ah ... missed this last week: a gold medal for Squamish (http://www.squamishchief.com/article/20100219/SQUAMISH0201/302199953/-1/squamish/squamish-s-golden-girl).
North Van girl originally - not sure you Squamish blow-ins can really claim her......

Having seen some of the "fat bastards" who compete at ski cross in the flesh (so to speak), they're not so much fat as just enormous and stacked.
Off topic, but the shortie that won the halfpipe is quite cute.

You mean Kerrin Lee Gartner or whatever her fucking stupid name is. She is fucking irritating, i hope she's not retained for the next set of w. olympics. If the skiing wasn't quite so interesting, i'd turn it off every time she's commentating.
-
Its her intonation that kills me. Almost like she decides which sylables to emphasise by pulling them randomly out of a hat.

German name with an ö instead of oe so more like "Turves", not to be confused with the Welsh Toews

Fuck Yeah! What a game - Sid the Kid pulled it out of the bag - nice to beat the yanks too - I've only just got over my hangover from Friday night after the semi.......
-
There was a genious line in the commentary from Bob Ballard, when the USA had just pulled their netminder at the end: "There are six americans on the ice at the moment, and one of them isn't Ryan Miller". Nice on Bob. Straight to Colemanballs?
-
Thought I'd add to this thread instead of starting a new one. It's not the olympics, but still GB Womens Skeleton.
Shelley wins the season overall World Cup and new upstart Lizzie Yarnold creams the field, winning by 0.5s for her first proper win in her first senior season.
(She also won in St Moritz, but with only 1 run as the second run was cancelled due to snow)
Looks like the new future of GB Skeleton is here.

Yeah it's brill news, Mrs Obi and Mrs AndyB know Shell well. Lets hope the result and news coverage get her a major sponsor which she has been lacking recently so she can continue.

Just watching the track cycling from yesterday at the velodrome. Pendleton has just blown the favourites(Aussies) away on the second lap. Outrageous! Thought she'd peaked 4 years ago, but obviously not.
Cannot help thinking that while this comp will prep the team for the Olympics, it will also prep the other countries more. A mistake in my view.
Pendleton WAS awesome, by the way. First 10 mins here... http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01cbrv2/Track_Cycling_World_Cup_2012_17_02_2012/ (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01cbrv2/Track_Cycling_World_Cup_2012_17_02_2012/)

Get with the programme, Williams retired to do celeb TV a couple of years ago. ;) Shelley is about 3rd in the world rankings although she hasn't been at her best during the Olympic quals so fingers crossed. Theres another brit called Lizzy Yarnold whose also doing pretty well. British team should be Rudman/Yarnold all being well. They find out tomorrow.

The addition of slope style actually means chances for medals in skiing in Woodsy (James Woods - Sheffield lad) and maybe. Katie Summerhayes. Rowan Cheshire in the halfpipe might be in with a shout too.
I'm pretty sure there's some slopestyle boarding hopefuls aren't there Chris? It'd be nice for Team GB to medal on skis or board for once.

It's say that Lizzy Yarnold is the possibly the biggest chance of a medal at the games.
World No. 1 with 4 wins this season, including last weekend.

Yeah brilliant that, proper ledge. Couldn't believe it when that last rider down, the austrian, fluffed a landing.
Also I'd give props to that czech bird for riding down after a fall so hard it split her helmet.

Split helmet's got to hurt.
Good effort from JJ. Anyone notice any commentators getting a bit worked up at all?

I felt a bit sorry for the lass who pulled off the 1080 (biggest trick ever in competition) with only a slight hand down and didn't get a medal. I realise the judges putting the most weighting on execution and style but come on, the biggest trick ever in competition?
JJ looked pretty chuffed with herself, she made the right decisions for her run and pulled it off with style, well worth extending her career for.
I did find it a little surprising that a bronze at the Olympics seems to be bigger than having won three X-Games Golds, first brit to win an X Games Gold etc.
-
the biggest trick ever in (female) competition?
Surely?
Anyway, yes I agree and on the X Games medals.
-
Suppose it's only the same as if climbing ever did get into the olympics. Suddenly millions of people who've never seen a competition before would see who won gold/silver/bronze, never mind how many previous world cup / rockmaster / king of the wave titles they already had.
She did also say herself that it felt totally different winning something for the team and the country rather than just individually.
-
I can understand why Joe public think it's bigger as they've never heard of the X-Games but I guess I thought for her it wouldn't have meant as much. It was the interview when she was saying that it felt different as she was representing her country that surprised me. I suppose I thought the "alternative" nature of snowboarding would mean that the gloss of the "mainstream" olympics wouldn't quite have the same effect.
Really chuffed for her though. It turns out she's the same age as me. To think, she could have followed my career path of quiting seasons and eneding up in a middle management position in engineering. Who's the winner now!
-
Or alternatively, you could have carried on doing more seasons and... got a little bit better maybe, but more likely been either broke, injured or have liver failure :)
-
I spent a lot of time during my second season with my arm in a sling which lead to excessive drinking and consumption of meat, cheese and potato based foods. When I walked past a group of kids and they whispered, "He looks like a fat Jack Black" I realised I was in a bad way.....
Back on topic, watching the downhill of the women's super combined whilst having breakfast and iving my daughter her morning bottle was brilliant.

I think you're only supposed to have a TV licence for live stuff, but I don't know for sure.
Correct (whether you watch or record live TV) (http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one/).
You can however watch non-live content on the BBCs iPlayer within the UK without any problem.

Aye - live stuff, however you watch it. So iPlayer is fine unless it's live and there is more live content on there than I'd imagined.
Anyways, having no TV is a good excuse to go and watch someone else's and blag dinner whilst I'm at it.

Woods injured in practice (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/winter-olympics/26129829)
Hopefully he will be OK for thursday, but not good
-
Woods did pretty well considering his injury. Yarnold has a decent lead after 2 of 4 runs. With the uphill sections the style of track favours the heavier sliders, so it's not going to be Shelleys year. :(

Eve Muirhead is hot...

That is all....

Not many of of the snowboarders have beaten with the ugly stick either.

Didn't seem fair that one guy took six penalties.

I think they hadn't thought that far ahead! He came good though?

I think the rules in that have changed recently. It used to be best of 5 penalty shots then sudden death, I think they had to nominate 5 shooters then either rotate them or it was a free for all, I forget. These days you nominate the shooters for the best of three then have to pick from that three in any order for the sudden death shots.
I see today Finland have knocked the ruskies out, good effort by the Finns and I bet that goes down like a ton of bricks with the Russian media.
-
Yep. Putin's not going to be happy.
Just watched Canada scrape past Latvia 2-1. Although they'd have scored earlier without a Latvian Suarez moment when one of their outfield players grabbed the puck as it was going over the line.

I see today Finland have knocked the ruskies out
oof
so Karelia is next?

Teal GB to get either Gold or Silver in men's curling. I keep getting drawn in, thinking I'll just watch a bit, and then an hour later....
Need to play it a few times to realise how bloody hard it is!
-
The women got bronze so we're on course for possibly our best winter games ever.
-
4 at least!
Should have got more if not for some (IMO) shitty judging in the skating.
-
do you have any snowy hills in Squamish for people to practice on on?

Not this year!

Not this year!
It's just restarted - knee deep and fluffy on Blackcomb this Weds :clap2:
-
Though http://blogs.avalanche.ca/this-beauty-is-only-skin-deep/ (http://blogs.avalanche.ca/this-beauty-is-only-skin-deep/) :(
We just got our fluff back, and it's healed much faster :) Similar issues, but one area has somehow gotten hit with snow 3-4 times in the last 2 weeks, and it's really allowed it to heal up. Super excited to be going backcountry tomorrow.

Resurrection!

Looks like Sheffield is well represented this time round, a few XC skiers from Aberdeenshire too.
Anyone else psyched for some great viewing?

Psyched!!!

Also, only here could this thread title have anything to do with winter sports!!!

My boss for a long time at HSBC in Sheffield was James Woods dad. I've been to their house for a bbq when James was knee high. #shitclaimtofame
He didn't go out to Sochi to watch James as they were advised that it was all a bit dodgy if you weren't actually a competitor and that the hotels were all 2.5 hours bus ride away from the events. Wonder if he's going to South Korea :-\

At least twenty-eight government doped athletes are allowed to compete, rendering many sports utterly pointless. Will not tune in.

Not a great start for the UK snowboarder's. :'(

Snowboard Cross is my new favourite sport!
Elise Christie must be the unluckiest Olympian ever!
Lots to enjoy so far...

Did anybody see the women's super G final?
Fuck me, des plus brilliants exploits.
The favourite cocked up. Her time was overtaken. The medals appeared to be decided. The commentators said that those left to come weren't serious contenders.
Then this competitor comes along. Riding on borrowed skis. She's a snowboarder who fancies a crack at skiing. She looked scrappy as anything on the course.
She bloody won it! If you can watch the footage of her at the bottom then you simply must. She sees the light is green but she can't believe it. She just looks in complete disbelief and starts to shuffle off to the exit area. A cameraman eventually goes over to her and tells her she's won. She just says "nooo".
She did the press conference afterwards in her ski goggles. You see, she hadn't expected to win so she hadn't put any make up on and didn't want to be seen by the cameras. She eventually excused herself because she was missing her practice runs in the snowboarding.
-
she's my hero, especially as she beat the oversponsored Lindsey Vonn.
As for boardercross, if you are tempted to have a crack

It was bloody brilliant seeing her totally risk everything and win but I have to comment on:
Then this competitor comes along. Riding on borrowed skis. She's a snowboarder who fancies a crack at skiing.
Firstly - The riding on borrowed skis smells like bulls**t to me. She's sponsored by Atomic, she's been racing on Atomic in the World cup last season and this season, why would she rock up to the Olympics without her skis?
Secondly – She was obviously not expected to get a medal, never mind a gold but she has placed top ten on the world cup circuit and been racing alpine skiing since 2010 so I think you are doing her a disservice in saying she just rocked up.
I know this makes me seem like a curmudgeonly old twat but the hyperbole is a bit over the top. Who was the favourite Will, Lara Gut?
Anyhoo, awesome to see someone do so well outside of the normal top ten finishers, especially as all the next six places were no surprise.

Yeah agree with this. Its great to see, but you can be flipping great at two disciplines and she takes both pretty seriously. 3 weeks rotation I recall?

unfortunately, I will be busy hustling and sandbagging in Slovakia that weekend
I have considered the indoor boardercross scene - although I have no idea of the current standard - things seem to have progressed since I last looked at the sport - I've always been shit in the air, but handle falls and collisions well
If I start training and they introduce an over 50 category in the near future, I might be up for it
-
watching the women's big air yesterday, my wife brought to my attention the practice of creating a whisp or curl of hair either side of the goggles (usually blonde hair)
we have now started scoring this effort - and cheering the women who do not do this
(and pretending to shoot the women who do the bunny ears or lucky cat hand movements whilst bobbing their head from side to side)

Boo to you with your facts and your understanding of the sport. I have neither and it's a much better story without them.

I'd noticed the hair thing and pointed it out to my wife. She is going to be sporting that look for St Anton at Easter, though she might have to grow her hair a bit. It is now very hard to "un-notice". I tried to correlate ability with hair whisps to no avail.
The one thing I found disappointing with the women's snowbaord "freestyle" events (not really seen any mens) is that none of them (apart from Yuka Fujimori but she's a snowboard cross rider turned slopestyler) really drive their boards. Watching the slopestyle, the tricks were there but getting between rails or jumps they didn't look very good at actually snowboarding (they obviously are) and certainly didn't do it with any style.
This may be just because I'm a skier but when I see snowboarders out and about there are the 90/95% who slide about making it look like the worst sport in the world, then there's the 5/10% who fly past carving their boards, rip though the powder in lovely floaty buttery turns and I question whether my choice of sticking to skis was the right one. I'd have thought the slopestyle Olympians would be in the 5/10% but they looked very "normal" between the gymnastic aerials.

She'll be styling her way up Spare Rib with that look.

Exactly, look at Nibs for example. Brilliant on both the fingerboard and the woody.

It was a Stanton/ St Anton joke.

It was a Stanton/ St Anton joke.
Too clever for me..... Funny though, especially if you knew my wife's disdain for climbing!
-
You haven't misunderstood and that makes total sense. They look very passive on the board and as a skier, that looks wrong as skiing is very active.
And back on the subject of the WO, I'm, as ever, loving the skiercross. Still don't quite understand what would make you choose it as your discipline but it is quite the spectacle. It seems to have a not quite as bad but similar lottery style to it as the short track.

Too slow to be any good at any of the downhill events, not stylish enough to do any slopestyle, dump enough to just go for it with complete distain for life or limb.

Same thoughts here (apart from the choosing ski issue)
I thought they could all do with sharper edges - turns out they deliberately ride with blunt edges in slopestyle
when the occasional rider did a big carve to finish at the bottom (360 in a couple of cases), I felt they were doing so just to let us know that all that sideways skidding was a necessary evil of the event
I'm never going to be able to do any of those things that they did in the air and on the rails
-
I think blunt edges are so you don’t hang up on rails. Anyway well done Billy Morgan!!
-
It's that time again.
And David Ryding winning in Kitzbuhl has to be the biggest rank outsider win in sport for quite a while.
In spite of all the controversy about location, still psyched..
-
Bit harsh on Dave Ryding to call the win in Kitzbuhel like that... He has been consistently in and around the top 10 for the last couple of seasons, he has also finished 2nd in Kitzbuhel previously in 2017. Wouldn't exactly call him a rank outsider.
Anyway i'm really looking forward to the Olympics. The slopestyle course looks mega.
-
Fair enough. I'll admit, I always considered him an "also ran" but never thought he had it in him to win anything, 2017 was a long time ago.
So much great stuff to watch, and BBC are doing better coverage than they did for the Olympics.
-
The British media only seem good at reporting when someone wins. And whilst 2017 was a long time ago he also had 3rd and 4th place finishes in World Cups last year however this isn't ever reproted as newsworthy...
-
Pidcock becoming Cyclocross World Champ was missing from the news too, hitting various types of balls with bats and kicking balls was clearly more important news.
-
He's rampant right now. If you can win cyclocross, the other 2 are easy surely?

Somehow I don’t think so, nobody has won the Worlds cyclo cross and either of the others ever.
Including MvP or Wout who more likely to have won the cross worlds if they had turned up.

Call me a cynic. (tempted to just stop there...) but I reckon BBC make sure they throw stuff up on the website to ensure balance....(even when main radio, tv etc. headlines skip it).
Ok, I'm deffo a cynic but there may a shred of truth in that?

Local lads Johnny Smegma and Jizz Head had a big win in the backwards three-legged egg and spoon race recently. Massive upset, beating the reigning champs from Ulaanbaatar by half a ringpiece. Wasn't even mentioned on 5 Live, the cunts.

I jest, just that cyclocross seems like such an unenjoyable event, that the others must be fun by comparison. Anyway, straying from the topic.

I know that and Evie Richards has won the Mountain bike and under 23 Cyclocross worlds howeverI was referring to the men.

Women's slopestyle was brilliant finale yesterday with a great finale, worth checking out if you missed it.
Be keen to hear about any other good watches.
-
Slopestyle snowboard? Yes, amazing final. Women's mogul final was similar, everyone upping their game. Skier cross and boarder cross are always good value.
-
Men's snowboard slopestyle is a different level to the womens' though. A couple of "what???" moments.
-
Not the most exciting sport in the world, but pretty nice to see Eve Muirhead and her team finally win the gold in the curling!
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/winter-olympics/60451924
-
And the Men's team get silver.
Anyone tried curling, we did it a few years ago as a social thing at work. Great fun, but flipping hard / impossible to get the length right, difference between stopping a metre short and going right out the other side feels like nothing.
-
I grew up in Perth, so we had the choice to do it one winter in PE at school, and my mum's a very keen curler so I had no choice...
-
After some earlier discussion about Dave Ryding he has now got another world cup second place at Garmisch and sits 4th in the overall rankings. Another brilliant result that will pass us by as it wasn't at the Olympics.
https://www.bbc.com/sport/winter-sports/60546998
-
Did note it. Brilliant he performed well again, shame he didn't do as well as hoped in China.
Also the Winter Paralympics starts today, some amazing athletes.
