Title: Corrupt POI files
Post by: Jim on September 07, 2007, 11:17:47 am
Well they are not really corrupt because tomtom still reads most of them fine, only trouble is I can't get PC POI edit software (poiedit and another one) to load the data for editing. Keeps saying its an "invalid ov2 file". anybody any ideas how to get round this?

Is this a joke? YOU'RE the moderator, you're supposed to give us tomtom stuff not ask us for help!

Well said that man.

Someone should strip this clown of his green stars if he's pulling stunts like this.  I'm incandescent.  I'm also glad Jim Jr hasn't been born yet to see this shambles of a man.

Right, this better stop before I'm gonna have to moderate someones ass!

anyway, I've been able to recover the data by converting to a text file using a program called winov2.exe and then converting back

That's the sort of shit we need to know about.  A classy recovery there James.

Having some problems downloading the TOM TOM POI files, is the link still active? I know it's pretty old.

To use this Google Map on your Android phone see Obi's post (http://ukbouldering.com/board/index.php/topic,25582.msg484501.html#msg484501).

You can also export all the POI's from my map (https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=zRW0j3XFT5Cs.kTKlHeMvcz9o) and import them to OSMAnd (OpenStreetMap on Android, free offline navigation and in some regards a lot more detail than Google Maps) to use whilst out and about (although you have to export as KML and then convert this to GPX (https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/25683/import-my-maps-from-my-google-account-to-osmand-app) and import the GPX file).

You'll have to convert the exported KML to whatever format TomTom uses though.

I've still got the files,  will just need some time to get around to uploading them again

To save people four clicks, here is a direct link to a KML export of all POIs (https://www.dropbox.com/s/6ljd6cxlrstblua/Climbing%20%26%20Bouldering.kml?dl=0) (including North Yorks Moors that were posted recently).

You can then use one of these suggestions (https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=kml+to+tomtom+poi) to convert them to TomTom POIs (GPX or any other format that you need).
