Title: Lost my tripod
Post by: r-man on July 16, 2005, 01:31:03 pm
So I think I might have left my tripod in one of the quarries round Bolton.

I really can't remember, it's one of those oh-shit-it's-not-in-the-house moments where I realise it must be somewhere else...

So anyway, if you happen to be in the quarries and you find it, please give me a shout. It's got gold legs. Three of them. And black bits.

Cheers

Well, even if you don't happen to be in the quarries, I'd still like it back if you find it...

Damn loopholes. Don't pretend you meant something else, you cunning devil.

Earl is dead cool, except in summer.

Didn't Bogg find a tripod leg at Beeston recently?

In my experience minus five is still too hot to do the ramp. The only time I did it the air was at least minus ten, windchill even lower. The coldest day I've ever had at a crag. And still it was a bit greasy...

I live in Dublin, and I haven't seen it here.
Am off to the west coast this weekend - I'll keep an eye out for it.

That's also where I'm going to be - my wife's from Cork. We'll be near Clonakilty for a few days, then down in Baltimore for the rest of the week, then off to Dingle for the second week.

The place you mention is near Dunmanway - I haven't been, but it's meant to be OK, in a slightly slabby, old school way.

The only other bouldering documented in Cork (apart from a terrible looking quarry just south of the city) is on Hungry Hill - this is up near the Kerry border.

There are likely to be quite a few Northcott Mouth style venues on the coast - pretty much all the coastline is rocky, and the rock is mostly interbedded fine sandstones and siltstones (similar to the culm, but purply red in colour), but none of these have been documented.
I've been to a place at Dunneycove (just south of Clon) which had some potential, but I didn't do anything there - would be accessible a couple of hours either side of low tide.
Whereabouts are you going to be? West cork is best for buggering about on the beaches and doing a bit of surfing and sea-fishing off the rocks.

Have fun.

I sleep easier at night knowing the combined might of ukb is out scouring the earth, come hell or high water, come rain or shine, in every concievable place (and some less concievable, just to be thorough)...knowing that ukb in heart and mind and body is out searching for my dear three legged friend. And my tripod of course.

No sign of any tripods in Thor's Cave yesterday. Had a good look in all the pockets too, so I think we can rule the place out.

Might need to do some investigating to find out where you can hire some kit though, not as many shops as Devon or Cornwall.

You don't have to eat the fishyou catch.

Similar, but totally different. I dont think horses and hounds are often used, nor are gay red rackets and hats worn, unless you really want to. That was a deadpan   by the way, not to be taken seriously.

I thought you might be joking, I just know how sensitive you tofu guzzlers are.

I wonder if the foxhunters might actually take to the water, now that they are banned from foxhunting. With scuba diving kit for them and their horses, and packs of well trained otters they could have some top sport.
