Will that have the original soundtrack?
-
according to the needlesports website it does have the original soundtrack (plus an Indian Face documentary to pad it out to an acceptable 55 mins):

£25
Rip off.
A 20 year old film being re-released, plus a bit on Indian Face shouldn't cost anything like this much.
Don't get me wrong, I like Stone Monkey a lot (I'm in it...for about 2 seconds :) ) but compare this to DVDs from other sports which are better produced, longer, etc and this price is too high.
-
Where abouts are you in it Bubba. That's a good tick!

Make that £26, less a penny.
I agree - way over priced for a film that's so very short and IMO, not that great. I bought the video a year or so ago, and was very disappointed. Some others will no doubt disagree about its qualities, but it did little to inspire me, unlike almost every other climbing vid/DVD I've bought.
-
Blimey, that is a lot of money.
20 quid would be more like it, but only if they packaged it with Best Forgotten Art. And why not have some of Dawes' crazy leaping/ hopping/no hands stuff, even just on buildings or boulders. It's his talent for creative movement that makes him so special, it would be great to see a bit more of that...
A Dawes special circuit of the plantation... that would be brilliant. Would give us some new challenges...
(Which gives me an idea: http://ukbouldering.com/board/viewtopic.php?p=71405#71405 )
...Oh, and they should stick a copy of Buououox 8c in there too. Just the sort of entertainment that you'd feel very happy about having as an extra but rather annoyed about if you'd paid for it.

Word.
Also there's a bit where he dynos over a bannister rail to catch some stairs - that was where I was living at the time on Cowlishaw Road.

You mean that wasn't really his mum and dad's place? my illusions are shattered
-
That was Bubba and his girlfriend...
-
That's right, he is our love-child - he's just aged fast...
Most of that "dream sequence" was filmed at the old PYB wall.

Wasnt there a different soundtrack on the Video to the one they screened on the TV?

You young uns have got to remember that 20 years ago there wasnt a big skate/surf /ski video industry putting out high quality films. Stone Monkey was a revolution and I remember we just kept rewinding it and watching again for the evening!! This was the era when Betamax was still avalable, but not CDs!!
(That said it is expensive)

get 'gogarth' and 'strone ulladale'(sp?) on there too.
and best forgotten art, and dawes' one hand footage. perhaps thats too much?
unispiring fras!! oh dear! oh dear oh dear. the youth of today..
what about total control..?
-
I note that the Indian Face snippet @ the end happens to be "E9 6c".
Fucking great (worth the price alone)!
It's the one where JR goes (with great seriousness):
"E9 6c is out there on the Streets every night."
-

I've seen Gogarth. I have vague recollections of something truly awful. I seem to remember the most exciting bit was when they struggled up the grass at the top...

I think I've seen that - doesn't he also say (about the painting on the rock scar)
"Of the three people who saw it, one is dead, one is mad and the other? <shrugs artistically>"
-
£25 does seem steep, but according to the distributers that is purely because of the original soundtrack, copyright is a bitch

Yes, I'm afraid so, compared to other vid.s
"youth" - cheers, you've no idea how that's made my day! If you only knew....;-)
Total control - was that a route or his *cough* style? If the latter, it honestly didn't look particularly in control, thought I'm sure it was. Not trying to be nasty or dis the guy, but I just didn't enjoy it, despite the guy being waaaay better than I could ever hope to be!
-
£25 does seem steep at first glance, but then consider that i'm sure until pretty recently the VHS 25min video of stone monkey used to retail at about £20, it then doesn't seem that bad!
-

I got into Talking Heads on the strength of the Offspring tune (Naive Melody dontcha know). Never got into Frank Zappa though :?
-
And don't forget Lloyd Cole.
-
This is cool, I will probably get it despite the price.
BUT, they really really really should have put Best Forgotten Art on there - great film, and I can't understand why anyone, when faced with that option, would chose not to put it on?
-
Maybe it wasn't a option?
Stone Monkey is an Alun Hughes film.
BFA is a Johnny Dawes film.
errr.. I think..
-
The cost is due to Alun Hughes having to pay through the nose to use the original Frank Zappa soundtrack. It's not like Frank needs the money, him being dead and all.
-
Saw the Indian face at LLAMFF last night - its an entirely new film about Indian face, not the old E9 6c short. Really good, all unseen footage and all the players interviewed with their views 20 years on.
I'm pretty sure it'll inspire a few repeats too - as is pointed out it waited 8 years for a repeat, 2 came along, here we are 12 years on and still no more bananas.
-
the indian face thing is good and might even persuade me to buy the dvd.
-
The Indian Face thing is well good and having seen it could sway me into getting the DVD. It won't though because I've seen Stone Monkey ten million times anyway, and the ten minute short, E9 6c, is the one you really want. Redhead puts in perhaps the greatest comic performance ever televised, if you haven't seen it you don't know what you're missing!
Total control - was that a route or his *cough* style? If the latter, it honestly didn't look particularly in control, thought I'm sure it was.
I can't believe no-ones picked up on this! You must be thinking about another video. We are talking Total Control, a video of Jimmy Jewell soloing several Welsh Extremes. Appropriately, he looked to me to be totally in control. You'd have to be to solo T-Rex, never mind doing it in about 5 minutes.
-
I remember seeing this Jewel film when I was about 12, I can't remember where. Does anyone have it?

I know someone whos got it on Vid, I have to say its filmed well but overall with the strange home made pr0n music and Jewells cod mystic voice over it makes for tortuous viewing
-
i think fras is referring to jims 'meat and two veg' style, something i have attempted to emulate over the years.
not sure how i would describe dawes style. a rare steak, and pea sandwich, might be in there..

Ah, well. even though we've established that the film on the DVD is not "E9 6c", I've found a transcript of a radio programme using much of the same material.
I misremembered the madness of JR
JD. ...and he paints this thing that is supposed to be like a Bayeaux hunting painting, or something, (JR. ... two people have seen it. One is dead, the other has gone mad. What can I say?)

I have..............and several other esoteric (read weird) things that you might wanna put on DVD
-
We will be selling the DVD tomorrow in Outside; just had it in this p.m. It's like i was back in Hunter's Bar 15 years ago watching it. Ahh...memories!

A bump for this nearly-forgotten thread.
Someone just posted this link on ukc
Stone Monkey Teaser Trailer (https://www.posingproductions.com/video.php?form_action=play&video_id=33)
It's got all the best bits in, including swearing, the Mancunican Way and some bits of the Quarryman groove (but I don't think I can spot Bubba in the Bus-stop :-\ )
-
What's that dyno problem he does?
-
It's at Ramshaw, apparently (http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/t.php?t=56425)
-
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
pause it at the bus stop dyno and look at the bloke with medium length brown hair, school jumper, ron hills, colourful socks with his back to the camera and a rucksack on floor next to him
please step forward BUBBA
-
Fuck - that jumper was cool :)
-
sorry Bubs, there is just not excuse for Ron hills

Well I UTFS and seem to have dug out a thread from 2006. I can’t find my Stone Monkey DVD which i thought was in our cupboard of doom and isn’t. Copies seem to be well expensive nowadays and it’s nowhere online either. Can anyone sort me out with some kind of digital version?
-
I'll have a look and see if i have the DVD, wasn't a big fan so could probably just send you it if it's still here?
-
That would be ace
-
Anyone got this on DVD to lend.
Have it on VHS which is obviously useless as I haven't had a player for decades
-
Hey Sam, feel free to request access to my climbing films folder, you’ll find lots of goodies (old and new) in there including the one you’re asking about ;)

I bought it on some auction site in the fall. The price was acceptable.
-
I have the same dilemma—
Dingdong, could I also request access? Would very much like to revisit Stone Monkey.
:)
