Title: The Yorkshire Big 3
Post by: ian dunn on July 24, 2017, 08:55:28 pm
Big congrats to Ste Mac for completing this challenge last week and cycling between the crags.
The big question is was he the first to do Urgent Action, Supercool and The Groove in a day? Or did Andy Mitchell do it? Come on Andy fess up did you or did you not do the Challenge in a day and did you run / cycle between the crags?
Has anyone else done any other similar challenges on the big three crags: The baby 7c challenge New Dawn, Pierrepoint Dominatrix, or Obsession, Frankie and Cave route right, or the 8b daddy Predator, Huecool, Mandela or Ecstasy

Surely Ste should be on for Bat Route, True North, Mecca extension IAD? (fast car allowed!) He should be able to lap 1 and 3 ... 2 might be more of a conditions luck based challenge.

That would be more of a challenge for him. This is a bit underwhelming as news. He's just climbed 9b ffs.

I'm still waiting for someone to do 8A, E8 and 8a in a day in Yorkshire. Mr Turner, if you see this :jab:

Zoo York, New Statesman and Raindogs?

I always wondered if this was a case of Chinese whispers and it was actually Tony Mitchell that did it?

I'm with Doylo on this. Was the outcome ever in any doubt? Three warmups (by his standards) plus, what, 10miles of cycling? Gordale and Malham are right next to each other ffs.  ;)

For a Peak challenge could do 8 classic F8as at 8 different crags, on the same calendar day, ideally on the 8th of August, cycling/running between:

Ruby Fruit Jungle - LTQ
Free Monster - WCJ Cornice
Sissy - Rubicon
The Prow - Raven Tor
Powerplant - Cheedale Cornice
Ogre - Chee Tor
The Spider - Plumb Buttress
Thormen's Moth, Thors Cave

Full set of classics in different styles, bona fide classics. It would be hard enough doing this with car transport. 8 pints for the first person to do this.

Who can list crags that have an 8A, E8 AND 8a on them? I can think of one.

I think the biggest challenge on this (for someone beast like enough like Dan) would be getting suitable conditions...

Report from BMC: https://www.thebmc.co.uk/steve-mcclure-attempts-the-yorkshire-triple-crown

Did Geoffrey Boycott write this? Claims they are the three best sport routes in the country! Are they even the best 8a+s? Non-Yorkshiremen might suggest this is in Dorset.

Hang on, he'd already flashed two of them? Come on, this is just too easy.

Kilnsey maybe? Obviously has an 8a route, I think it has an 8A Boulder (though it seems pretty hard to find out about any of the bouldering, obviously not in the loop) and according to the logbook on the other channel it has one E8.

Dumbarton ticks all three.

It's got at least one 8A+

Yes, if the rock wasn't so awful to climb on.

Had to chuckle at that hackneyed 'best routes/crags in Britain' chutzpah.
Everyone knows Malham and Kilnsey are supporting ruby's and sapphires to that most precious gem that sits atop the crown of sport crags, The Diamond. Shame it's such a fleetingly rare gem...

I always wondered if this was a case of Chinese whispers and it was actually Tony Mitchell that did it?

and from an old thread in 2012 :-

Didn't Andy Mitchell do the Triple Crown in a day running between the crags?

Think it was Tony Mitchell. Might be wrong though.

You are correct.

Shit maybe I've got that wrong/misremembered, I'd hate to do him a disservice, he's certainly capable.
