Title: A Day to Celebrate Gluttony and Sloth
Post by: Sasquatch on November 28, 2014, 12:02:56 am
Today is the US holiday dedicated Friends Family and giving thanks for the things we enjoy in our lives.  Of course, like most things in the US, it has been subverted into a holiday celebrating Gluttony and Sloth  :devil-smiley:  So I invite all of my overseas friends, acquaintances, enemies, and anyone I may have missed to join in this wonderful day of celebration.   Instead of having a beer, have a 6'er  :pissed: and instead of working out, sit and watch the tube.

In all seriousness, I am extremely thankful to the UKB community for showing me that there are real people who climb, and are obsessed like me, and I appreciate the community immensely.

I went fishing because I couldn't climb

I then went gluttonous on the fruits of my misdirection

Can't you just buy this crap that you don't need online, from the same store, for the same price. (although I suppose that way you don't get the chance to have a fight)
It reminds me of my sister in law, who queues at night on boxing day for the privilege of fighting other losers in the Next sale.
Still it's nothing new, when I used to work in Meadowhall (a long time ago now) there were always granny scuffles on Christmas eve morning over M&S turkeys.

My mum used to recall the tale of going to Rackhams (old Birmingham department store like John Lewis) on Boxing Day to buy a sit-in toy car that was on sale.  Must be around 65 years ago. There was only one up for grabs and they had to get their early to be first in the queue then rush through the store to the toy department and fight off the competition to get to it first.  Apparently there was a tug of war between her mum and another parent which ended with tears when the other parent lost.   It used to be quite a twee tale but can't help thinking of it as the origins of scenes like today's now.

I hope you are all paying attention to the "global" Lego crisis (http://www.canadianbusiness.com/companies-and-industries/canada-lego-shortage/).

Maybe time to sell of a Triple E or two! (of which we have 4, bought for £50 each last year)
