I've been thinking about this recently. I've never taken photographs, I must have at most a couple of dozen from over three decades climbing. It just never interested me. But getting my first smartphone (Samsung Galaxy something or other) last autumn has really changed that. I really enjoy trying to capture something that catches my eye and interest. I'm sure its entirely down to the phone that my attitude has changed so much; I think that's an interesting outcome.

I don't have a way of posting here but those unfortunate to be facebook friends will have seen some of the results.

That is stunning! Spent a few minutes today with some swanky gear trying to get a Super Macro of a rather beautiful spider and didn't even come close to that.

I've only been disappointed by two things about my phone (moto g 3g ver.).

1) the none expandable storage
2) the camera

The latter is terrible!

Camera on my last Motorola smartphone was abysmal too. Despite being the same on-paper resolution of my iphone4's camera in actual use it could only resolve about a quarter the level of detail.

I feel the same

I use teenagers favourite 'snapchat' app to share these moments of interest with my friends. It's only shared on their screen for 10 seconds and then never seen again. There is something about this temporary style that makes it feel like they were with me too sharing the passing moment, and becuase of this it holds more weight with me.

One thing I've noticed with my phone, especially with the rubber casing on it, is the amount of crap that accumulates on the lens, worth the occasional wipe with a lens cloth. Also, check if your flash is above or below the lens, on some phones it's placed below for some reason, so can create odd shadows around the tops of people's heads. If you turn the phone upside down to take pics it prevents this happening.

Are you judging this based on the mp's alone? If so chances are when it's above its native ISO the image quality will take a significant dive if it's a tiny sensor.

It's amazing indeed. It's the biggest dome built with conventional materials. The higher it goes, the lighter the materials that have been used.

I used to lug around my SLR and associated gadgetry with me at every opportunity until we had our daughter and then there was a whole lot of different gadgetry that took its place.
Since then I've become a smartphone photography convert and snap lots with it!
I use Google+ backup to automatically backup my shots and use with Google+ or Snapseed to do editing of these shots almost exclusively - the results you can get are amazing!!
This shot is unedited as I just thought it was great out of the phone/camera.
