Title: Missing Cave hold
Post by: Doylo on June 20, 2019, 06:36:59 pm
Has anyone got the decent foothold used on the crux of Rockatrocity in Parisellas? Also the rh starting hold of Louis Armstrong. It was wobbling slightly and has obviously come off on someone but there’s so sign of it in there.

No, but I have got one of the undercuts from the top traverse on Statement of Youth.

If you're getting nowhere with the above mentioned holds let me know and I'll forward it on...

Orme’s falling apart. I blame the Olympics.

Long shot - but presumably you have a time window during which the incident may have happened... worth checking the ol' UKC logbooks to see who may have been there at/around the time?

Failing that I guess its just the long sickening wait - until a jiffy bag arrives at your house containing a small fragment of the hold and a randsom note :(

Already had a look. It’s quite a crucial hold for dozens of problems/links. The fact that it’s not there is good in a way as suggests someone’s taken it to avoid it getting lost. But worrying as no word anywhere yet.

Its a funny one - would have thought someone might have said something. After all - das Cave probably has a relatively small proportion of punters heading there...

It was there late on Tuesday evening and wasn't there when I arrived yesterday (Thursday) at 5.

Must have happened Wednesday or Thursday morning. Did anyone on here climb in there on Wednesday?

After Redhead was recently shown the collected creations of Doylo, I reckon it'll turn up in a few days with a huge glans lovingly painted onto it.

Leave the Statement hold off, stick the statement hold on Louis, when the Louis hold is found stick that on the next classic route to lose a hold, etc, keep paying it forwards.

This might change the grade of the next one in line https://www.ukclimbing.com/news/2019/06/major_welsh_rockfalls_-_vivian_quarry_closed_and_tremadog_trundled-71980

Anyone got any knowledge on sculpting limestone?

Use a better longer lasting rock if you’re making a replacement :)

They wouldn’t do that at Notre Dame.

They also don’t get tourists taking a dump on the altar (not that they let on about anyway :D )

Someone has collected a few bits of rock and put them in a bag under the RA jug. Only one little bit looks polished enough to  have been properly part of the hold. Even if some of it has splintered off someone must have the large section. I was there wed morning it had already gone to narrow the timescale. I arrived about 11-12.

The main bit should be in one piece as I glued it years ago. Obviously wasn’t a good enough bond.  Was flexing a bit. I’ll go have a look in the bag.

That's really odd that it disappeared between 8pm Tuesday and 11am Wednesday. There was only one chap chumming around on left wall traverse when I left - can't imagine he would have got on RA.   :-\
