Title: Cunty Drone Man - rural myth or real life rock star?
Post by: lagerstarfish on April 25, 2024, 11:15:41 pm
A week or two ago I heard a report of someone filming themselves on T Crack with a drone and shouting "CUNT!" on each failed attempt

I initially wrote this off as typical Sheffield grit boulderers superiority chat; probably trying to make fun of southerners like they do round here.

However, this week I was near there myself and could hear the gentle whine of what I think was a drone. It was pretty quiet compared to the drones I am used to hearing around Burbage valley and Stanage, so I didn't feel my usual need to stride over and start an argument - in fact, I was intrigued to see if this was the Cunty Drone Man. I asked Dolly if he could hear the whining possible drone noise - he could.

The main thing we could hear was a willow warbler singing away -  a bit like a male chaffinch with a funny accent. All of a sudden we heard the familiar THWUMP of a body hitting foam - swiflty followed by a loud "CUNT!".

This was too much for us. We lay face down on our mats crying with laughter at the realisation that Cunty Drone Man was probably real.

As it happens, we were having too much fun climbing rough brown rocks to investigate further; and actually it felt better to leave the myth uninvestigated.

Has anyone else heard Cunty Drone Man?

How does he keep his drone so quiet?

Has he done T Crack yet?

Is there more than one CDM?

I am not interested in identifying or "outing" CDM; rather, I think we should celebrate him in all his cuntitude.

This still makes me laugh too much :)
We heard a goldfinch and raven as well although we would probably have heard that anyway as it was so loud

If CDM is reading this and you haven't done TCrack yet, I would like to offer up this for next time you are on it

I just Googled. Perhaps CDM is using something like this https://shotkit.com/quietest-drones/

It's great that drones are getting quieter since for me it's just the noise that pisses me off.

I'm all for a bit off passion and emotional investment - I'm rootin' for Cunty too! (but I guess best to avoid offending passers by).

Sometimes though a cultural moment leads independent individuals to make uncannily similar expressions of great artistic genius or intellectual leaps forward.

Think of Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci; or Leibniz and Newton; or Wallace and Darwin; or Kalecki and Keynes.

Can you you blind taste the difference between evain and volvic?

Drone or merely a portable airflow cooling device? They're equally in fashion and the tree coverage above t crack doesn't make for a good cutaway.

Its just occurred to me that a close friend formerly of this parish has a house in spitting distance from Robin Hoods and can be quite hard on himself, with cvnt being the go to chastisement. I'll enquire

What exceptional wit you demonstrate Tom, that response makes possibly even less sense than had you simply written, the equally original, “so’s your mum.”

I trust Stone will now call you out for being a despicable bully and remonstrate with you, as per the other thread.

That's all well and good, but how does Cunty Drone Man compare to his possible arch nemesis or even alter-ego Droney Cunt Man?? Slithering into your quiet, peaceul, multiple-angle filmed in 4K HD via SurroundDrone(tm) sending session and blethering on his inane droning monologue about useless micro-beta, esoteric conditions fussiness, arbitrary and arcane problem rules, and something tedious about "Back when I used to warm-up on this..."

Which is worse? Are they ever seen together? If they meet will it be a catastrophic matter vs anti-matter implosion of cuntitude??

As an adult woman, I would like to join in to say that while I'm not mad keen on "cunt" as a term of abuse, "Cunty Drone Man" is delightfully euphonious.

I'm glad we're all feeling so connected to the simple wonders of nature and local folklore (the song of the willow warbler, the hum of the drone, the loud shouts of "CUNT" as someone falls off again ...), and I hope that Cunty Drone Man can remain a mystery to delight and entrance us all.

It seems an appropriate place to post this:

[TED Talks Daily] An honest history of an ancient and "nasty" word | Kate Lister #tedTalksDaily

I don't often use the word 'cunt' because most people see it as a highly offensive term, however personally I don't have any issues with it.

As per the link above, the etymology is less derogatory than the other common terms for female genitalia, which usually come from something like 'sheath', i.e. a place to put a sword. The word also has a wonderfully satisfying sound to it.

I'm also a fan of this thread and have enjoyed the myth of CDM  :2thumbsup:

I don’t particularly like the word and the way it is used in the present, regardless of its history. But, in the main, I wass mainly just using this thread to demonstrate that it’s not always very clear what is and is not offensive to different people. And that stepping in to “do the right thing” is rarely as clear cut as some people seem to think.

As an adult woman, I would like to join in to say that while I'm not mad keen on "c***" as a term of abuse, "C***y Drone Man" is delightfully euphonious.
I certainly didn’t mean to imply that males have a monopoly on puerile behaviour, simply that only men (AFAIK) had up to that point participated.

Carry on.

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cunty

The word 'cunty' was reclaimed by the queer voguing scene of the late 80s, and popularised in that idiom by Beyoncé's seminal 2022 album Renaissance.

Keep up Tony.

If T-Crack was 8B, the unmasking of drone cunt would be a relatively simple deductive process. Cross referencing any number of ‘8B wad’ drone cunts operating in the area known for their proclivity for swearing with recent social media postings and the 8B list floating around. Drone cunt isn’t an individual.

So you’re saying UKB is a hang out of the queer voguing scene? Or that many users are guilty of cultural appropriation?

That said, that hasn’t been the word used on many occasions. Also, many posts in the thread, including the initial post, are fair enough. But quite a lot would appear purely for the titillation of their author, simply because of the word in question.

Had the word been “runt”, I posit that there would have been significantly less interest, despite being equally “euphonious” in any sonic sense.

To be fair, I'm not sure Cunty Drone Man can be said to be "serving cunt." I suspect it would probably be more linguistically correct to say that he is "serving bouldering twat realness".

Yes, "dirty" words have a certain kick to them.  Which comes partly from other people's impulse to tut about this puerile and boring behaviour.

On the other hand, as someone who is frequently Droneless Falling Off While Shouting "Fuck" Woman, I don't feel like I can lay claim to any of Cunty Drone Man's special charm. Being foul-mouthed alone doesn't cut it.

If a person chooses to get their “kicks” by offending others, what does that say about a person?

Shouting anything whilst (repeatedly) failing on your current project shows a lack of self-control and is penalised in many competition sports. Frankly, I think people (inc. Ondra) should be embarrassed by such behaviour. It’s just climbing a bit of arbitrary rock. Get a grip.

So harsh and judgemental.

Opinionated, yes; judgemental, I don’t think so. I did write, “I think”. The judgemental part only concerns whether one considers shouting while falling off as demonstrating a lack of self-control. I would suggest it either demonstrates a lack of self-control or an excessive egotism/arrogance. Take your pick.

N.B. that I said nothing about the kick coming from offending others.

The value of swear-words as expressions of strong emotion may come partly from their being socially taboo, but (for example) if I burn myself on a hot pan and say "fuck!" while in my flat on my own, that has nothing to do with "offending others". Nor am I "getting my kicks" out of it.

And if a person chooses to repeatedly come into the thread with a swear-word in the title in order to be offended that it contains swearing, what does that say about them?

I don’t think anyone was condoning swear-shouting when people fall off. I expect many of the adults on the thread would agree with you that’s it’s not on and a bit embarrassing if that was your point.

Please fucking well consider helping to fund a fucking replacement bridge at Cunt-brook Mill by donating to the PDNP Foundation's fundraiser for this at: https://shorturl.at/cesz8

You cunts can also donate by:

Bank transfer to ‘Peak District National Park Foundation’, sort code 20-10-71, account 63364895, Barclays Bank, quoting Cunt-brook Bridge
Cheque made payable to Peak District National Park  Foundation with your cuntact details and marked Cunt-brook Bridge to Aldern House, Baslow Road, Bakewell, Derbyshire, DE45 1AE

However, if you fuckers want to add gift aid (giving them an additional 25%), you’ll need to email them for a gift aid form to complete.

Nice one to all those fucking cunts who have already donated.
Works for me

Yeah - that was my impression. It would have been much simpler for Tony to state at the beginning "please don't use the word C*nt, I don't like it" instead of steering the conversation towards the topic in a rather strange way.

Since you go on to claim it's because you're deliberately winding up people you consider to be "fools" -- too much time on your hands, I have to assume.
