:coffee:
It's a little bit of a trek from Bolton to The Peak, and I'm generally ready for a brew and a bit of cake when I get there, so what's the the nearest and best café to The Tor/Cheedale? I've been to Outside at Calver but it's a bit of a detour when coming from Manchester.
:coffee:

the tea pantry in Eyam is nice - treacle sultana tart was particulary nice pre climbing treat!
Any others as I'd be interested as well.
:2thumbsup:

I don't normally go via Tideswell but I figured it'd probably be the most likely place to score some cake so I went through today, I clocked the place you mentioned as a possibility, but the blinds were down (as in the street view photos), so the opening hours might be odd. Definitely merits further investigation.

Looks like its shut mon/tues on their website.

Its worth it at the minute just to avoid the chippings on the way into Litton.
-
The Vanilla kitchen opens at 10 i think. Their chocolate brownie is incredible.
-
Whatever you do make sure you don't cry all the water out of your body.
-
It's a fucking disgrace.
-
Paul you maniac, Aaron is coming from Bolton - he will be going the Wormhill way, and - get a shitter car, then you can blaze up the gravel doing skids and everything.
If I owned the wriggly tin i would reopen it as a cafe now the tunnels are open. There's money to be made there me thinks.

There is a new cafe at the Buxton end of the trail, near where folk hire bikes from. Also the post office in Litton sells cakes made by the local WI some of which are excellent, they also do a good selection of Bradwell's ice cream (Bakewell tart and lemon curd flavour are my favourites).
-
Also been to the cafe at the Buxton end, they do earl grey for the same price as normal tea which is nice and feels like you are getting more for your money, though I think the coffee is only instant some odd pricing £1.50 for tea/coffee but only 75p for a cold can. Most of the snaks/cakes looked to be packaged bought in products but it is very convenient, especially if you park at Topley Pike. I have also been to the cafe attached to the pub in Monyash http://www.monyash.info/cafe.php (http://www.monyash.info/cafe.php) which is very nice you can get all sorts including some deleicious ice cream, not the cheapest though.

Another vote for Vanilla Kitchen in Tidewell.
If you just want to pick something up and go, Tindall's in Tideswell certainly used to do brilliant flapjack and millionaires shortbread. Pork pies are good too..

Its a holiday cottage now, so they're probably already making a mint! I doubt the passing trade during the winter months would pay the bills though.
What would make a good business I recon is the funny "brew stop" castle-esque thing at Rubicon - noticed it was for sale recently. Someone needs to make a proper go of that, not the current half-assed "bring your own food" thing.
Bradwell's ice cream (Bakewell tart and lemon curd flavour are my favourites).
yeah those are straight dope. I also especially like the butterscotch ripple, its a good autumn/winter icecream.

A bit of feedback...
I've been to the Vanilla kitchen a couple of times now, the coffee's good - it left me talking shite and shaking on my warm-ups for a good hour afterwards, the cakes are a little sweet for my taste, it's a bit expensive at £3.90 for a white Americano and a cake.
Today I tried the café above the farm shop on the opposite side of the road a bit further up. The coffee was from a Rijo machine, but was passable, the scone I had was a little dry but a decent size, the other cakes looked good. £2.75 for drink and cake.
Serpico - selflessly ruining my figure to bring you CAKE facts.

Vanilla Kitchen is about 3 minutes walk from my house.
PM me if you are coming down at a weekend - I'm almost bound to be around, being out of action at the moment - and I, er Clare - will bake you a cake, and provide coffee to your own specification - gratis.
How about that for an unbeatable value/service combo?
Neil

I've been avoiding the crag at weekends, but with an offer like that :bounce:

Although it sounds unlikely, the post office in Litton does great cake's baked by a local lady. A scone is 35p :2thumbsup: and the carrot cake is amazing (although more expensive!).

Tend to reserve the Post Office for post climbing ice cream, though now the nights are drawing in its more normally a pint across the road...

When you go for an "after work drink" do you ask for a pint of work?
;)
