Title: Help, much needed advice..
Post by: Nike Air on April 29, 2014, 10:28:01 pm
My manitou rear shock just stopped working today. On close inspection it looks like the air valve thingy has just snapped off!!  :???:We are going away soon and need to get it sorted asap. My local bike shop was totally unhelpful. Can valves be replaced? do I need to by a whole new shocker?
This is the same type http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/product/39202/Manitou_Radium_Expert_2013_Shock (http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/product/39202/Manitou_Radium_Expert_2013_Shock)

Right I got the remainder of the air valve out with an hex key (thanks to goggle).
Anyone manged to buy a replacement from a bike shop before? Are they all compatible?
cheers

I'd be surprised if they are standard across makes. I'd give a main manitou dealer a call and ask about getting a spare. Think Winstanleys is one. If no joy try and pick up a compatible one on eBay. You need to get one the same lenght. Normally they are measured centre of eye to centre of eye.

Can anything here help? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/s?q=manitou&ss=2498 (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/s?q=manitou&ss=2498)

If not it might be worth ringing a suspension specialist TF Tuned (http://www.tftunedshox.com/default.aspx) who service Manitou and see if they've got one or can order you one.

+1 for TF Tuned. Give them a call and they may be able to send you the parts or as bubba said, fix it and service it too. Always had a great service provided by them

If you want this sorted quick phone tf tuned, but if they have a long wait before service they may not have time to then service the unit. Iirc they usually ask for the unit and do all repairs themselves.

Tbh, I'd buy anew shock. It will improve the bike, and be a going away pressie to yrself... Go on, you worth it ;)

Cheers for the suggestions guys. Been a bit manic trying to get the bike sorted and also the van repaired after a head on crash a few weeks back.
All done and now on Naomi's masterclass tour of England.
I had a shop purchase and fit a new valve only to find out that when I picked it up off a mate who'd collected it for me, it has not worked and just lost pressure when I sat on the bike(bike went in with no wheels on..)
Ended up going with fatdoc's plan and popping into winstanleys and buying a new shock off them. The chap in there reckoned the old shock may have a broken seal as he said that would have been the popping noise a heard( had forgot about that until he asked me!).
On the plus side I've learnt how to fit rear shockers in a Sheffield premier inn room!!!
