Hoping to get out Sat and am keen to visit somewhere new. Tintwhistle and Black Tor boulders both look attractive in the guide but I've no idea how quickly they dry (Fri and Sat are forecast dry at the minute) or what they'll be like in the depths of winter. Black Tor is obviously smaller but might actually offer more given my current ineptitude. Any feedback/suggestions welcomed.

I'd avoid both this weekend given the forecast

Hi Andy,
I had a look at Black Tor on a sunshine and showers day in the summer when I fancied getting out for a walk - and I probably wont go back with a pad... there were a couple of good looking blocs, some (very) hard problems and some really easy ones... The 7A+ Looking glass was a fine line and is in my grade - but nothing else there was in my 'doable' range and looked any good. I was not inspired to return...
Tintwistle I've not been to - and there looks like more blocs, scope, range of problems - but the guide suggests its a wee bit tricky to get around...
Soz if thats a bit negative :-/
TT
(PS, I got your text - off to the Lakes with the fairer half this weekend...)

OK, thanks both, will think again. Got the text Tom, cheers, have a good weekend.

Tintwistle is the better venue, though neither are amazing. It needs to be proper dry too.
-
I'm keen to go up sometime soon if we hit a dry few days and I live quite close - tell me if you're thinking of going.
-
Andy, if you are coming from the west, Blackstone Edge might not be too far out of your way. Some nice lower grade problems and most boulders will dry fast given any wind. Don't go if it's super windy though.

Good idea Robin, Blackstone's is v easy from mine. There's a topo here somewhere isn't there? Will do Ru.
-
GCW made a topo, but we could never get it to upload on here. I'll pm you.

Good shout R-man, I think I chatted to you about Blackstones earlier inthe year Andy.. Approach from the M62 side is only a little further walkin.. Details on the relevant thread here somewhere.. Plattsy or Grubes might be interested in a trip out there? Though plattsys sheff side nowadays.. Stuff around the hueco bloc is great (I posted a little vid on it earlier in the year..).
-
If you can't download the topo I can email it to you Andy.

Topo goes viral!!
I'll re-try uploading it to the Wiki if Bubba can fix whatever the issue is.

Hopefully this link should work now: http://ukbouldering.com/wiki/images/d/d8/Blackstone_Edge.pdf (http://ukbouldering.com/wiki/images/d/d8/Blackstone_Edge.pdf)

Yeh link works gcw, nice one. Pleasant little venue

Yes it is, it's brilliant for pottering around on high quality lower/ mid grade stuff. That topo is now woefully out of date though.
