Title: Thorn Crag
Post by: meatball on December 09, 2010, 06:38:38 pm
Would anyone have an idea as to how it will be up there on Sunday? Checked the forecast which shows it will be a little warmer around Lancaster way both Fri and Sat. Is it likely that snow will still be around or would it have melted by then? Thanks in advance

Not been a great deal of snow anyway, so if it stays above freezing for a couple of days I'd guess you would probably be OK.  You'll be able to tell on the way into Tarnbrook, and could divert if needed.

Not sure what the parking situation is at present, the 3 car space was becoming a gate last time I went.

Was up there today. Access fine (road ok) and not too much snow about, but it was plastered over a few boulders/problems. It was below freezing so snow could be brushed off fairly easily - and the rock was dry. Tough conditions but climb able in places... For my next trick & fix my sink were both fine, but easier stuff in that area was a bit snowy..

There's a green area on the left just as you enter the village. we've always parked there and asked permission at the house next door as a courtesy.

Room for two cars with a wall on one end and the side - like a right angled triangle? (Hard to describe..)

I've usually parked another 100m further on at the small triangle of grass before the road goes through the wall to Gilberton's.

No, not the village green.  There's enough room for 2 (small) cars there if you're snug.  I usually check it's OK if there's anyone around.

I am thinking of heading here saturday.
Anyone know if it will be cool enough up there to climb?

With a breeze you'll enjoy the lower grade stuff and exfoliate nicely.

I would personally go when it's cooler.
Woodwell or similar would be a better bet.
