Any album cover featuring the inside of Thor's Cave get's my automatic approval. Look, you can even see West Window Groove, my route Loki the Trickster and Slavek's project!

Genius, I never noticed that!

Is Joy Division modern? Well over 25 years now...

i just like this album, a lot

however, it's not a masterpiece, neglected or otherwise

nor is it by an underrated artist

nor could i be arsed to find links to any tracks

never the less, if you see a copy in the record and tape exchange, buy it, you won't be disappointed

#check - £1.95 second hand on amazon uk, ffs!#

2003's sold down the river isn't quite as novel

Raymond Pettibon has done some amazing covers (I think he did that Big Black one in the first post, have some waddage Houdini for consistent good band appreciation!)

All of Tool's album art is amazing. The cover of Lateralus is stunning as well.

I was reminded of this by a snippet in the Metro (commuter paper) which said the original of this just sold for a lot of money breaking Banksy's previous auction best.

not exactly modern, but I dug this out today, and the cover shot is truly awesome.
based on Magritte's Empire of Light series

"...the triumph of the cover lies not only in the fact that it is arresting. The Chevrolet, empty house, and sky are Late for the Sky lyrical props (further, in the songs the sky serves as the album's most striking symbol of death/salvation); and the juxtaposition of darkness and light reflects Browne's lyrical juxtapositions of resignation and idealistic determination, death and rebirth."

Raymond Pettibone

I'm trying to lay my hands on some original R Pettibone art for my house and keep on getting outbid in auctions - prices are going skywards (like ten thousand dollars skywards!!) and I wish I had a little income I could have squandered a few years ago when it was affordable. There are far too many ex-punkers turned professionals with good taste  :-[

friday night, manchester. tool are by far the best band that i have seen live (many times now), and their current live set looks like it will sound amazing. i am looking forward to this gig more than the two nights in a row for lateralus.

edit: by the way...the artist is called alex grey, he does some of the animations that they have looped through their live show along with the original music vids as directed by guitarist adam jones (which are well worth checking out)...
