Title: Bouldering Ciamara. Mallorca
Post by: Aussiegav on June 22, 2020, 11:40:10 pm
Got a week in Mallorca with family staying down the road from Ciamara. Anyone bouldered in this area?
Seen the guide has a section of A crag that boulders the starts of routes?
Any info welcomed

Not sure if you meant Caimari instead but I did this boulder there that was pretty good (for being at the base of a sport crag). A rucksack as a pad and a close spot was ideal:

Yes, that’s what I meant
Thanks.
Were the problems good & landings good?

I've done a few of the routes at the cave sector at Caimari (which is where the bouldering is). Apart from a couple of variations and sitters, the boulder problems are all the starts to the routes (a bit like the problems on the RHS of the Tor). Unlike the RHS of the Tor the problems generally aren't the cruxes or even the good bits of the routes. You drop off just as the routes start getting good.

So if you're nearby anyway and want to get a bit of climbing in on your own it would be ok, but I wouldn't go to the crag to boulder if there was an option to climb the routes (which are very good). The landings are flat, hard, rocky/dirt - like the bottom of the Tor.

However, a few km up the road at a place called Lluc there is lots of proper bouldering, on boulders, apparently. Not been but there is info on the web if you use some google-fu.

Thanks for that. I’ll check Lluc out. We stayed at a monastery there. Pretty cheap place to stay.
Nice cafe there, popular stop for cyclists.

Restaurant Coll de Sa Bataia? The hot chocolate is immense.

Landings all flat, problems OK. Sport was better to be honest. I did a 7b there called Colgau that was amazing - technical bottom half to a 45 degree overhanging tufa dream
