It pains me to have to say:

My apologies to anybody waiting for a pre-ordered copy.

darn, that means it'll arrive whilst I'm away. Do you think it'd be possible to hold back posting mine as it'll just end up sitting in a delivery office and being returned I'd think?

Yeah, sure, I'll let the shop know.

How long are you away for?

3 weeks, back on around the 14th. Past the limit that a sorting office holds things I think?

There's no easy way of breaking this to you, but I've just been informed of another delay:

Just out of interest, and without stirring up the whole environmental/ethical debate of printing and shipping books from China, what is the saving per unit (as a percentage), on say an order of 1000 books?

There is a big difference between european prices and what you can get in China. Not sure about such a small print run but for anything around 3000 to 6000 you could be paying less than half.

Of course you do have to factor in the long delivery schedules and, as I am finding out, 'communication' issues.

Cheers, was just intrigued more than anything else.

Lets hope they don't come shipped in Mandarin

Can the title of this thread be changed to 'Slateheads don't get their guide' or something?  ;)

Seriously wishing that the quarries were less than 175 miles from my house...

glad you like it - it's the first book we've done which I've enjoyed looking at without stressing over errors/print worries etc. (which I'm sure there will be somewhere) - its a definite high point for us and makes all the hard work worth it  :)
on a slight tangent, but keeping it slate, johnny's book is at the printers at the moment and is looking good for a few weeks time...

When's Gogarth South out?

That depends on whether we go to China again for the printing - haven't decided yet. We're well on with it though; the script and topos are about 90% completed and Al has just started laying out final pages.

I've been doing a lot of ledge shuffling research over the last 3 months, as have the rest of the feedback group. Chris Parkin has sorted a new set of stakes for The Range - hopefully these will go in soon (some of the old ones are very suspect - I kicked the stake at the top of Dichotomous and it snapped in half!)

Speaking of The Range - cool new route from Big George:

http://news.v12outdoor.com/2011/09/27/big-sardine-e5-6a-the-range/ (http://news.v12outdoor.com/2011/09/27/big-sardine-e5-6a-the-range/)

This could be DWSed and there are a couple of other obvious lines left and right.
