Title: 2 days in the peak, where to go?
Post by: Dave Flanagan on November 28, 2006, 11:48:05 am
Am coming over this weekend early on Saturday and leaving on Sunday night, where should we (punters < 7aish) visit and what should we try? Thanks.

If you are new to the peak the classic first choices would be maybe Burbage south/north or the Plantation one day and Crattcliffe + Robin Hoods Stride or Newstones + Roaches the other day. Odds are that weather will play a large role in where you choose to go. Ask again toward the end of the week.

Hi Dave,

Dom here, the new bouldering centre opens this weekend!! so at least it won't have been a wasted trip if it craps out!!

True the new wall is a pretty good backup but where should we go that might dry quick or be sheltered?

Sat looks fine but windy and Sun looks a write off. http://www.mwis.org.uk/mountain/PD.PDF
Quote
Sunday
Southwest veering westerly, in
the range 40 to 60mph, gusts 60
to 180mph.
Very severe winds will make
walking very difficult where
exposed. You could be blown
over. Sever wind chill.

Periods of heavy rain
At best heavy squally showers
with hail and perhaps on highest
areas, snow. At worst, periods of
heavy or torrential rain

Sat could be a tricky call. Might be windy, might be wet early on from night mist/drizzle.
Cratcliff/RHS area is always a safe bet, but Stanage/Burbage will probably be fine if you don't mind wind and a slightly later start.
If it's super windy Gardoms middle and south, Curbar Boulders, Froggat, eatswood (not many probs), areas of Cratcliff below crag, Eagle Tor and Rowtor are all sheltered to varying extents.

Yeah it worked out great, went to the plantation, burbage north and west on Saturday. Was windy and dry. Went to Curbar on Sunday and got a bit done though it always looked like it was going to rain. Then went and checked out climbing works. We hadn't really expected to get anything done on Sunday so that was a bonus...
