Title: Bridestones or somewhere else
Post by: Dolly on November 26, 2013, 04:34:26 pm
I'm off to a mate's 50th in Clitheroe on Saturday night.
Want to get some in on the way back on Sunday morning.
So... I've never been to the Bridestones (yes, embarrassing I know)
Is it worth it ? - should I go there ? I see people on here say its not as good as it was, ruined by erosion etc.  I may be in a less than pristine state so mileage is more probably on the agenda than working anything.

If not I'll go a different way and go somewhere else

Its a great place - despite the erosion. It needs to be dry - and is probably OK at the moment as theres been no rain for a while (of course by Sat it may be different..!).

Though Widdop is not too far away from there (IIRC) so that could be an option (another great venue..)

Longridge also worth considering, maybe a better option if it's windy. Probably 10 miles from Clitheroe and on the way to the M6 if you're heading back that way. Unfortunately another place that used to better but it still worth a visit.

Agreed. Don't go if it's damp at all. Crookrise or Flasby (although dryness is important there too).

Go to Bridies if you haven't been before

Just looked at the map... Widdop's on you're way home (pretty much) - Topo online (Yorkshire Grit?) IIRC... Kebs is good though...

If you've not been to the Kebs before, it will be worth a visit.  If it's an old favourite, stay away!  A Widdop - Kebs combo is something I've done many times and well worthwhile.

If it's cold and windy the Bridestones can be fucking grim though. I've sacked it off and opted for widdop and had a great season

my season = session btw. F'ing predictive text. Don't get too poleaxed and have a gibber attack on Horror Arete, although hair of the dog is available at the Sportman's at Brideys - convenient parking place!

Dolly, horror arête is totally brilliant. It's not that " horror" and is well worth the trip!
