Title: Sheigra bouldering guide
Post by: gardinrm on December 26, 2013, 10:40:34 am
Hey everyone,

So after a lot of work and some epic procrastination i have finally finished the little guide for Sheigra i was writing. It is in pdf format and makes a little booklet (like the lakes bloc guides). I am not sure where to post it other than here. I am feeling like i might make a website for bouldering in the very northwest, but that might be a long time in realising itself.
Hope you like the guide and find it useful. Any more information/comments, please get in touch.

Good work.

You could upload it to the UKB wiki (http://ukbouldering.com/wiki/index.php/Scotland) if you wanted (for now I've linked it back to this thread).

It'll be people's work firewalls as you've set the most permissive sharing options available for Google Docs.

Proxy or wait till on a non-crippled connection seems simplest.

Quality effort guys, video and guide  :great:

What's the weather/midges like in late April? Thinking of a trip north to Torridon and pulling in a vist here as well around Easter, thanks

Late April will be fine. Rarely a problem until early June. April May often has good weather too.

Thanks Chris, appreciate the info - Jungle Formlula not required  :2thumbsup: trip depends on other half but if we are going up I'll post dates and maybe meet up with some of the East Coast team if anyone's up there

One advantage of Sheigra is being right on the coast, there is usually a decent breeze and therefore minimal midges.

Nice theory, but can still be brutal once the sun goes down. Had them as bad at Reiff and Sheigra as anywhere. Been walking back from Sandwood Bay late evening mid summer and been brutalised.

Although walking back from Sandwood bay takes you over the peat and wet inland, where midges like to party. I have never had bad midges bouldering in Sheigra and have only climbed there in August which is often the worst month. That being said, it is potential suicide not taking Jungle Formula. I always have some in the bouldering bag.

They were awful at the campsite at Sheigra, and got eaten in 1st Geo too. Sometimes you get lucky.

A little video of our most recent trip. The place keeps giving problems. Amazing venue.

Hi,
I ventured up to Scotland a few weeks back... spent some time at Sheigra - the guide was great... Just wondering if much more has been documented on the beach walls, there is a really nice hanging arete by the big roof, with various link ups. Nice climbing, be interested to hear if others have climbed it and which lines they took.

Cheers

Clare

Hey, perfect timing. I'm just updating the guide. We have seen the cave there and I was keen to do some climbing but we had not yet done so. Did you take any pictures of the lines or a video? I'll PM you my email, if you could send me any information then I can add it to the guide, otherwise I will take photos next time i'm there and try to put it in.
Cheers.
Rob
