Post by: B0405413 on June 30, 2014, 09:54:11 am
Hi, does anybody know of any specialists in the Harrogate/Leeds area who have good knowledge of the shoulder/nerves and would be able to help me with symptoms of ulnar nerve entrapment? Thanks

There used to be one who was good a climbing related stuff you could contact through Leeds Wall. This was over 10 years ago, so this info is likely to be incorrect!

Osteo = only proven to be useful as lower back specialists.

You want a physio.

That's good to know because I'm sure that's what mine is, how did they sort it?

This blog post is a much more informed and succinctly written explanation than i could manage (taken from the "shoulder injuries/exercises" thread here http://ukbouldering.com/board/index.php/topic,24378.0.html (http://ukbouldering.com/board/index.php/topic,24378.0.html))

http://www.climbingphysio.blogspot.co.uk/ (http://www.climbingphysio.blogspot.co.uk/)

My treatment revolved around;

I haven't been for a session in a year but keep on top of the issues with self massage (foam roller and lacrosse ball), a theraband and stretching. I would recommend going to see someone as diagnosing postural/movement issues would be next to impossible to do without expert help. You could then start self treating as i have been (i pretty much do the exercises shown in the blog above). Osteos are a grey are though, i saw Laura Faithfull (highly recommended to any Scots on here) in Edinburgh who was a climber and seemed to have a pretty solid understanding of what my problems were. When I moved to Yorkshire I tried to find an osteo in leeds but was put off quickly when i could only find people who were also practising "Baby Osteopathy"  :look:. I then went to a physio. Who said there was nothing wrong with me any more.

Instead of going to an osteo, put £20 in a jar and tell yourself that you're going to be better after 4 weekly sessions of putting £20 in a jar.

At the end there's a 80% chance you'll be better and £80 richer than before.

PS if you're not better probably worth seeing a homeopath.

I see a gentleman called Paul Cairns in East Yorks, he also has a practice in Leeds. He teaches at Leeds Met.

Awesome thanks y'all, this is much appreciated. Determined to do something about my problem once and for all, injuries are the worst.
