Title: Downtime this weekend (June 2023)
Post by: Duma on June 11, 2023, 12:40:20 pm
Appears the security certificate certificate expired...
Anyway, after not being able to access the site for most of the weekend it seems my issue is with my wifi, when on mobile data I access the site fine. Will restarting the router (and incurring the wrath of the rest of the household) likely fix this?

Ok so have tried restarting the router, and resetting it. No joy either way. Any suggestions?

I've cleared cache, cookies etc on my phone. I've got no problems accessing the site on mobile data.

But as soon as I'm on my wifi, I just get the place holder page that was up on Fri eve when the security certificate expired. It's like the WiFi hub thing has cached the old page somehow. I've turned it off and on, and done the full reset, but no joy.

I had issues on Friday afternoon, since then it works. Have you tried to access the site in incognito mode?

I guess the domain name server of your internet service provider at home has not updated the security certificate yet. You can change your DNS to 1.1.1.1 and try

This would be my guess. Assuming you're on windows Duma:

1. open a command window and run the following command

Code: [Select]
ping ukbouldering.com

2. It'll tell you the ip address which should be 209.135.140.14 if it is working correctly.

If it gives you something else then it's probably your ISPs poorly configured DNS server caching the result for longer than it should. As jwi suggested changing your DNS server should fix the issue.

Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) and google (8.8.8.8) are both good options.

Thanks guys, good advice...

Quick bit of info as to what the problem was - basically the domain expired. Our domain registrar had an incorrect email on file and auto renew was off - this is all sorted now, thanks for your patience.

Duma, your issue will most likely sort itself out over the coming days as a lot of this tends to be down to do caching and domain propagation. Looking at what's my DNS it seems to indicate that we've still got a few locations where it's yet to propagate and most registrars won't touch anything until at least 48hrs have passed (which it has), I'll keep monitoring this...

If anyone gets any issues then please let me or Simon know and we'll jump on them ASAP.

Cheers,

thanks both, seems like the ISP just hadn't updated yet as it worked this morning without changing anything else
