Title: SW Scotland Bouldering
Post by: Adam Lincoln on July 03, 2009, 11:11:35 am
I have a few jobs in North Lakes next week, then onto Glasgow for a few. Thought i would call in at one of the SW bouldering venues in Scotland. Which would people recommend for being the best for Font 7's. Quite keen to look at My Evil Twin at Sandyhills. Is this the best venue?

I think there may be a thread on this recently?

Sandyhills- Tidal, but quite pleasant if a little limited.  My Evil Twin is a tad eliminate if you do it right.  Mhairie's Massive Mangoes is a good problem, maybe worth an afternoon visit i guess.

Clifton- Some good problems, but fairly limited.  Some landings are a bit duff.  A couple of nice mid to high 7s and one nasty.

Thirlstane- I like this place, a few mid 7s to go at on an interesting (and tidal) lump.  There's a couple of extremely high quality problems that aren't well documented, first done around the late 90s by some handsome people.  But in seriousness, I'd rate the Stane of more value that the above 2 venues.

A it more of a drive you have some nice coastal bouldering- Garheugh, Larbrax etc which are good, some classic problems.
Or take a rope and explore the sea cliffs, often some good low/ mid extremes.
