Title: Caviar (start) - short person beta
Post by: jshaw on May 20, 2018, 12:13:11 pm
Had a punt on the start of Caviar a few days ago with a view to doing the route at some point.

Does anyone have any video of someone under 5" 10 doing the move over to the first flake? Or remember the beta well enough to describe what they did?

I found these:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YErmA87Ek2Q
https://vimeo.com/244018503
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9OpZDMzhNI

I can't quite reach the top of the flake to match (I'm 5" eight), and couldn't fathom another method.

I think I remember watching Stone manage to match the flake, so there must be a way...

Any help would be appreciated.

There a video of Stone on it somewhere.

My method (2nd vid?) is quite different as I Gaston the RH. I know NAi on here finds it nails/impossible and it needs an overcast day...

Stone on the send.

I'm 5'8 with short arms and have done the boulder so it is possible.

Ruth Jenkins did it at 5'2", or something like that. The sequence I used (5'5") was the normal one, just using higher feet.

Stone on the send.

Great to see Stone’s amazing clipstick (“Don’t touch it!”) immortalised on video.
