Andy Earl just did Careless Torque ground up. First time anyones done it ground up,i believe.
-
I thought Buoux 8c did it?
Good effort by the black pearl, all the same! Nice one. Nice day for it too.
-
yeah Buoux 8C has done it ground up........
-
I heard Rich fell from high up, then top-roped it before his ascent. But I might be wrong, you know the rumour mill. etc, etc....
Earl absolutely pissed it though, second go this afternoon after a few sessions on previous days.
-
Percy, I know this might sound crazy, but why don't you just phone rich and ask him before posting from the rumour mill?
-
I would if I could, but I ain't got his number.
-
:great: to the Earl. Respect!
That reminds me I'm still looking forward to seeing Rich's video I was promised before xmas.

Just to get one thing straight - I wasn't having a go or casting aspertions at Rich, or implying that he hadn't done it ground up. I simply didn't know that he had done Careless Torque - ground up or not. I write a bouldering column for a national climbing magazine, so professional climbers normally keep me posted on their latest big number tick list. Rich has never contacted me or told me that he'd done the problem, and I've never read about his ascent elsewhere, so I wasn't aware that he'd done the problem.
Normally, professional climbers are as eager as anything to self promote their daring deeds, so it seems a bit odd that Rich wouldn't let the media know of his ascents in order to improve his earnings, etc. It's what a professional is supposed to do, I would have thought. Rich got enough publicity from his ascents of Action Direct and A Muerte, so it seems odd he wouldn't promote his first ground-up ascent of one of the best and most inspiring lines on gritstone, but each to their own.
As I said, I was none the wiser when I suggested that Earls ascent was the first ground-up, but I'm sure he'll be well proud of his ascent and share it with as many people as he can, first or not. A very impressive effort.

Caught Andy and Gaz before they left the plantation, but I'll say it again - fine effort, inspiring stuff.

...but obviously as someone responsible for a bouldering column in a national magazine I can see how it might have slipped under your radar. Way to go on the research Percy

Oh yeah - fine effort Andy. Awesome stuff.
-
Hey, things can slip under my radar - its not like i'm not a busy person! Gaz got a text from Rich saying that he did indeed do it ground up, so I stand corrected.
-
chill dudes....
the point is it was repeated again today... full on respect - and the same to other pervious ascensionists...
now... is there video of it, can I see it and is it on the www. yet???
I for one can see no feasible way of getting stood up - and want to be amazed by how it can be done...
-
Sorry Percy - I was aiming for cynically sarcastic, but overshot a bit and hit arsey head on. Like fatdoc says, it's baffling how anyone gets stood up on that arete and I for one would fall straight off again through shock, so mad props to andy and rich.
-
I would if I could, but I ain't got his number.
Has he got yours though?? :-\
Effort to andy tho whatever - its fast becoming a bench mark told Torque - wonder who will get the on sight???

Good effort mr Earl.
A good winter by all accounts.

One of Andy on CT, and more amusingly a nice one of Gaz blowing the jump on Big Air. Just click on the pictures for the big version.
And there's some new pics in the gallery too - just general climbing shots from all over the place.

Awesome shot of Gaz blowing Big Air! It's taken just at the point when you can see him going "oh fuck..."
