Title: Pex Hill conditions
Post by: Zods Beard on December 04, 2008, 07:56:37 pm
Might as well start a thread while I'm asking, does anyone know if da Hill will be dry tomorrow?

Could be quite green as we have had wintery showers most of today. Pisa wall will be in good nick but Lady Jane will likely be green. The top outs may need some care! It could be glorious if we have a frosty night/morning but bring some brushes and plenty of chalk I reckon.

Went on Saturday, minging. Only Pisa wall climbable, everything else greasy, exuding green slime or both. Take a rope and a brush if you want to climb other than P. wall.

I can confirm that only Pisa Wall is climbable, but it is indeed in fantastic condition thanks to the very low temperatures.  Some donkey has managed to put a bit of mud on the starting footholds of lots of things, but it should clean off nicely.  As usual, it may feel a little greasy at first, but a few tries or a bit of gentle brushing on most tiny holds should bring them into condition.

Pisa Wall again only climbable, strange levels of moss elsewhere. Still, for aficionados, plenty of traversing available there. ;)

Did two of the best highballs on Merseyside the other evening. But they weren't at Pex.

Did you climb what you told me to go and climb?  I'm thinking big, high roofs.  Although these aren't really highballs are they?

No and no - but I'd be SYKED to give that a try, Too many possibilities, not enough climbing. I nearly posted on YYFY simply for actually getting out on actual rock!

Give me a shout if you plan to manage another foray onto the rock.  I'm always keen to climb at Pex, saw Will there the other night before he headed to your board.  It was a bit damp but okay.  Likewise a wander along frodsham is always fun.

Ben and co., have you been over the last few days? How's the good lady jane doing?

It's totally bo mate.  Or at least it was on Saturday and it hasn't rained since although the increased temperatures may mean conditions aren't as wonderous as they were at the weekend.  Breakaway was mint, as was Catalepsy and even Monoblock was feeling good and just about possible one day.  Give it a little more dry weather and Staminade and Black Magic etc should be dry, if not exactly clean!

Take a yard brush and join the mission to scrub off our favourite bits of sandstone.  Lady Jane Wall needs a really good clean in places as the moss is starting to take the piss.

I can now agree with Andy re: these marvellous highballs.  Details to follow but one of the highballs that Andy alludes to is quite simply fantastic.  Many more to be done at this "new" venue too and sorry for teasing too much.

Did in fact rain here, on and off, for a couple of hours yesterday morning. But it was very light and shouldn't have had any real impact at all.

1kg of dry moss can absorb 26 litres of urine.  SCIENCE!

It can royally take the piss.  Some of it can be really cheeky.  I was there the other day and a bit of moss came by and told me my footwork was terrible.  It even started comparing my footwork to that of Monolith's...

So the moss was saying you have the footwork of an Elephant in lead boots? Cheeky indeed.

Pisa and Memorial dry last night. Lady Jane damp. There was some form of party going on involving approx. 70 school leavers and copious quantities of beer. They were initially keen to fulfill our requests to collect their litter, unfortunately this had gone out of the window before we left and I imagine the place is in a bit of a state now. I suggest any visitors in the immediate future should pack a plasy bag or two  >:(

Seems to have been taken off but the only hits about a year ago were a few teenage girls getting dolled up and legless  before going down to that well-known night-time hotspot, Pex. And that guy with the dog.

Pex is in a right state at the moment. When we arrived last week there was this sign in place ...

Apparently the BMC and the local college have been contacted but I don't know any details...

There have been numerous posts about this recently on the other channel. One even looked close to coming to any sort of decision!
This is coming to a head. Something needs to be done and while we have the additional weight of the Parish Council we should be striking while the iron is hot. If there's anything I can do from Leeds I'd be more than happy to help.

Area meeting incorporating a representative from a local school and the local council and the BMC is needed. Now.

Pisa Wall is bone as and the obvious superb looking low traverse (7B?) across Vag Crap wall (back L-hand corner of the quarry the dryest I've seen it (i.e. actually dry).

Get a fingerboard up and tape a fan next to it. Last I heard it was like peak capacity in the G-Bar in the hangar this time of year.

Keen to give it a go as I have a spare afternoon in near Widnes tomorrow and I've not been to Pex for ten years.
