Huslan is south of leaning wall, you’d need to try very hard to not find it - just follow the coast path a short way and drop down the steps to the beach. It’s in the first bay you come to.  5’ish minutes from the parking. Go past the metal poles (this is Wal Huslan), past a hanging prow on the beach (Y To), the next wall just around the corner is Bae Huslan. I think it’s excellent for the traverse. Slightly overhanging, East’ish-facing so good for afternoon/eve shade.

The traverse is perfect height and landing for solo with one pad. I’m trying to regain some fitness following 6 weeks of covid wipe-out and just started trying this.

The Wal Huslan / Y To stuff looks decent and fine for a solo sesh with one pad.

I don’t think much of the Fedr fawr bouldering that I’ve tried.. too many factors get in the way for solo sessions - big stepped drops, slime, some highballs. Plus the coastal connies and crozzle. Better for a team.
The traverse along the base of white beach crag is good though and totally different vibe from the rest of the fedw fawr stuff.

We can dream of an updated coastal guidebook..

I'm unsure tbh. Part of me thinks that restrictions are only going to get tighter and I should futureproof as much as possible with a Euro6 engine, but that definitely pushes the butchers bill up somewhat. I've heard a few horror stories about people with modern diesel engines who don't do many miles and getting DPF issues, so currently leaning towards something with a frugal petrol engine.

The modern frugal petrol engines don't seem an awful lot more robust than the diesels. What's your mileage in real terms? Under about 10k per year it's not massively worth worrying about fuel economy, as it's often offset by the additional purchase cost (which is definitely true for Euro6). We just decided we needed it, so it made it an easier decision. (and petrol wasn't an option at 12-15k per year.

The 2017 130 dci uses the R9M 409 engine which seems to suffer no DPF issues and is also the engine used in a load of Mercedes cars. Uses a timing chain rather than belt which is great - but there is still a bigger service at 70k for water pump and aux belts.

The only issues we've had are a faulty sensor, battery not holding enough charge for start-stop to work and air-con needing re-gassed. (all of which were fixed by the dealer within the first week). Since then we've had a bit of a sticky rear calliper which was losing us 4mpg - should really do something with that! (just changed pads and winding it back seemed to temp fix it, but I know it'll come back soon)

OK, just had 9s on and off for most of the day, and just feel a bit too tight on right foot, will go for 9.5 I think, my "usual" shoe size.

Similar to Dragons: not much.  They mould slightly to your feet in width, almost nothing in length.

Had a few meeting with them via the UIAA Safety Commission. Interesting people!

😁

I was mainly interested in the Eiger!

we have a 10 yo diesel focus estate that only does about 5 hours of mileage a week and not had an issues DPF issues, we do put in a tank of "posh" diesel every 5th tank or so, and half a bottle of redex every 6 months or so. It's not allowed in LEZs though, which is a bit of a pain.

My trusty old van has finally failed the MOT, 185k miles so can't grumble too much. I've decided to replace her with an estate, any tips for options with a good reputation? I'm out of the loop given the van lasted more than 12 years, Skoda Octavia and Fabia used to be top picks. Anything else out there, are Toyota's still bombproof for example?

What's your budget/age requirement and what's your level of comfort with mileage? Is Sheffside or anything else you do subject to CAZ (I'm assuming this isn't yet for personal vehicles?) or anything else that may skew your decision?

I still lament selling my Octy vRS.

I have the mk 1 Sirius (darker blue and black trim) and several pairs of the original Dragons. The size is the same and fit is very similar. I think Sirius uses/d slightly less flexible material for the uppers and don't seem to conform to my feet or be quite as sensitive as Dragons. Small differences. This might be partially the difference between old and middle-aged shoes. The rubber is excellent.

Do they stretch out much? I've got a 9 & a 9.5 from them, and 9 feels good on one L foot, but a bit tight on R, which is a bit bigger.

50% off Beal Karmas in various lengths at Blacks at the moment and quite a few other ropes reduced too:
