Title: Taking off weight whilst fingerboarding
Post by: cha1n on May 03, 2015, 05:32:24 pm
Hey, thought I'd share my quick and easy method in case anyone is interested (sorry if it's been mentioned before).

I just use a cheap set of luggage scales with a knotted sling connected to the weighing hook. For 2 arm hangs I use a really long sling that I put a foot in. I tried various methods with pulleys and weights and it was just a load of faff (and my DIY weights just got in the way).

On first try you'll think that they're not working but I tested mine against some known weights and they are definitely accurate enough and 30kg should allow you to take enough weight off to most grips and if not, I'm sure you can get scales that go to higher weights.

I agree fine tuning the weight when all you have is two kettlebells and a sandbag is a faff.

So if you're fading towards the end of a set, you just press a bit harder with your foot? Might not be entirely bad technique training.

Yeh I had an Ikea bag full of 2l bottles of water!

I was just keeping the weight constant, if the assisted weight started to go up I just stopped as I class that as failure. I suppose if you were training endurance you could just instantly pull for me assistance. It's like having a knotted sling except more scientific!

We have a 2:1 Polly system rigged.

But generally this is for one armer training, rather than using the BM for general work.

I use a set of dial type bathroom scales for that. Trying for full hang during the first set of exercises and then aiming for a (progressively lower) target "lift off" weight on subsequent sets.

The BM has been one of the biggest challenges in my Rotator cuff recovery.
Far more painful than actually climbing, or even Campusing.

Yeh, I guess it's a similar idea to using bath scales apart from I've arranged so the luggage scales are level with my eyeline so I can keep a close eye on fluctuations. I think it'd handy being able to adjust weight instantly instead of having to mess about changing weights over, etc. I've been really happy with it though I don't fingerboard much, especially when the weather's like it has been.

2 eye bolts, a bit of cord and a selection of dumbbell weights.

Ahahahahahahahahahahah!
I should be on ze rock now, unfortunately too much prosecco yesterday at dinner made for a headache-plagued, sleepless night... So at the moment I'm in bed, ready for another coffe, then a couple of hours on my motorbike in the sun and then some board climbing right before another dinner out...
