Title: deep tissue massage
Post by: namnok on October 14, 2011, 01:48:02 pm
anyone ever tried it?

i'm having problems with my lower right lumbar region, and the sports massage i'm getting at the mo has reduced some other lower back pain but not this persistent numbing pain

i think it's stemming from my right buttock if anyone would like to caress

I am struggling to say what I want in this post without it sounding like utter filth.

I have had one, I thought it was excellent, it was quite painful and not particularly enjoyable at the time, it involved the masseuse using his elbows and knuckles and a lot of pressure but it really did feel great afterwards and made a difference, particularly to my lower back and bum.

I think it would be worth you having one to see if it worked for you.

Well worth giving it a go ....... I've had some treatment on that very area, and yes it really, really hurts whilst your torturer masseur is applying the pressure, but the effects are quite miraculous ......

I have had really positive experiences with deep tissue/sports massage. I have a tendency to seize up if things are stressful, I am working too hard (desk :( ), or I have pushed it a bit hard climbing. Sports massage has always given good results, although the rest of the day is normally a bit of a write off, and the day after has to be gentle if they have really worked on certain stuff.

Just make sure you tell them what you are after. They don't have to brutalise you for results. Some of the active stuff involving movement of muscle groups is relatively gentle, but very effective.

Do people (of this parish) find foam rolling helpful?

Yes. That and a massage ball for forearms, shoulders, basically anything. As you get more used to the foam roller I've found the ball more and more useful.

I use one of these things for my forearms (and nothing else) when they are achey. Works really well in my experience.

Yes, really good for forearms in general and specifically in trigger point for tennis elbow, and glutes after running.

I bought this after having what i thought was golfers elbow for almost a year, but what im beginning to think was trigger points refering pain to my elbows. Pain went away fairly quickly after i begun using it. Can use it on arms, legs, neck etc.
