Title: Bike Racks for estate
Post by: SamT on June 14, 2014, 04:01:15 pm
Got a new car and my old rack...

a bit like this one..

trashed the paintwork.

Wanting a new bike rack and wondering if anyone has any knowledge.

Not into roof bar ones as we have a roof box for camping trips with the kids, so bikes need to be on the back.

Towbar mounted ones ?? need 4 bike spaces so was thinking about something like this...

The thule ones look good (I was inspecting various options at whinlatter the other day whilst trying not to look too dodgy) -

but by god do they cost some money!! bit out of my price range.

So.. any beta much appreciated.

Have a look at the Atera Strada which is a towbar mount that tilts back and takes 3-4 bikes.   I've got one.  Its expensive  (£350?) but really good and easy to load , not as much £ as the Thule one you linked and stows away small enough when not using.

Its useful being able to open boot of an estate with bikes loaded.

But you need a towbar...

I have the 2 bike version of the Atera. It's been faultless for me for the last 5 years or so, highly recommended!
