Title: Fit boozer in t'yorkshire
Post by: Norton Sharley on September 23, 2012, 07:07:51 pm
The wedding anniversary is up again and it's my turn to sort out the shizzle this year. Recommend me somewhere nice to stay close to the real grit that applies the proper principles in order if precedence:
Top real ale
Top nosh
Nearly free
Comfy bed that doesn't squeek

Ta

The Cow and Calf? although I doubt it fulfills criterium 3), and I have no idea about 4), it does have a good pint o landlord, decent food (though not eaten there for a long time) and is extremely handy for the grit!

Get a b&b in Otley and be spoiled for choice for ales and food.

How far North? Some nice places in Masham and reasonable pints produced up that way.

Or for real ale hardcore, any crag in Yorkshire and any Yorkshire brewery other than Black Sheep or Theakstons.

I have in the past rented this place Masham for a long weekend away - sadly not very "nearly free" but it was lovely:

Walking distance from Black Sheep Brewery / Bistro and Slipstones just up the road.

Chippy in Masham is good. Curry house is really really bad (avoid).

I've heard good things about the rooms in Strines, they're sort of quaint old four-poster jobbies. Don't remember being disappointed by the drinks when I've been and the food is well-priced and good home-made stuff (they're pretty good at fish too). No idea what a room costs I'm afraid...

Wow, just found a picture of their rooms... looks potentially squeaky (http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g186364-d1013736-Reviews-Strines_Inn-Sheffield_South_Yorkshire_England.html)

Wow, you're dead sophisticated like.

Eee, they're all dead posh up near Richmond y'know, don't want any of that posh Black Sheep shite, I want a proper Yaarkshire brew made by proper Yaarkshire folk.

strangely there is almost nowhere good to stay in Otley, Dowgill house is a good b and b but you would need to book well in advance, there is little else worthwhile (avoid the black horse pub like the plague!).
Really good pubs in otley, the fleece is owned by wharfedale brewery, the beer is excellent and the food is pretty decent and reasonable value

Richmonds an odd place.

Two out of the three times I've been there I've nearly got in a fight.. (as in knob heads starting on me for no reason). Very pretty, twee, but shit after 8pm on a weekend evening. Plus its Will-I-am Hagues seat. Nuff said.

Chippy in Masham, a doss on the PC floor and Slipstones the next day.  What more can a girl want?  :chair:

Always loads of rabbits and pheasants running around up Colsterdale (between Masham and Slipstones) - you could get in a bit if poaching/skinning/gutting/cooking: The ladies love all that ;)

Ilkley's got some good pubs and is pretty centrally located for grit and limestone.

For ale, The Bar t'at is very good (don't be put off by the "wine bar" description, they have a great menu of local and foreign ales):

For ale and gastropub food, The Vaults is a favourite:

as for accommodation, I have no personal experience, but colleagues say this place does decent food which might be a good sign:

and for souvenirs, nothing quite says "I love you" like a quality sausage:

We just stayed here for our tenth wedding anniversary http://www.craiglands.co.uk/
Booked cheap through MIGHTY DEALS, might have been something like 89quid for two nights, for an extra tenna a night we upgraded to an executive room. All good for the reduced price we got it for.
We ate here one night and really enjoyed ithttp://www.farsyde.co.uk/. The hotel does have a restaurant but heard food not that special so went out.
One day i went to see this man......http://www.ilkleythaimassage.co.uk/ (http://www.ilkleythaimassage.co.uk/) wow what an experience, reckon his hands could climb 9b.
